A message from the assembly by Alexander T. Gray, Esq., their chief clerk: MR. PRESIDENT:

I am directed to inform you that the assembly has passed

No. 1 A, a bill to extend the time for the collection of taxes in the town of Beloit.

No. 2 A, a bill to extend the time for collecting taxes in the towns of Brooklyn and New Buffalo, Sauk county.

No. 3 A, a bill to extend the time for the collection of taxes in the town of Pleasant Spring, county of Dane.

No. 4 A, a bill to extend the time for the collection of taxes in the town of Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac county, and

No. 5 A, a bill to extend the time for the collection of taxes in the town of Neenah, Winnebago county.

And have also adopted the following resolution:

Resolved, by the assembly, the senate concurring, that the joint rules of the

two houses of last session, be adopted as the joint rules of the two houses for the present session.

In all of which the concurrence of the senate is requested.

The said message from the assembly was then taken up, and the said bills, No. 1 A, No. 2 A, No. 3 A, No. 4 A, and No. 5 A, were severally read a first and serond times, and said resolution of the assembly was concurred in.

The senate resolved itself into committee of the whole, for the consideration

No. 1 A, a bill to extend the time for the collection of taxes in the town of Beloit.

Mr. Dean in the chair.

After some time spent therein the committee arose, and by their chairman reported said bill back to the senate

Without amendment.

Mr. Huebschmann moved to amend said bill by striking out all after the enacting clause.

And the question having been put,

It was decided in the affirmative.

And the ayes and noes having been called for,

Those who voted in the affirmative were,

Messrs. Bennett, Bowen, Bugh, Huebschmann, Prentice, Sharpstein, Stewart, Wakeley and Wright—9.

Those who voted in the negative were,

Messrs. Alban, Conkey, Dean, Palmer, Pinckney, Reed, Squires, Turner and West-9.

There being a tie, the President gave the casting vote in the affirmative.

I am directed to inform you that the assembly have concurred in the joint resolution from the senate relative to the consolidation of the committees of the

senate and assembly on legislative expenditures, for the purpose of reporting the compensation to be paid to the officers.

And have also concurred in the amendment of the senate to the assembly resolution, relative to the distribution of the revised statutes, and the session laws of the last session.

I am further directed to inform you that the assembly have, by their speaker, appointed Messrs. McKee, Cain and Richardson, a committee on the part of the assembly, to act with a committee of two on the part of the senate, in pursuance of section 3, chapter 21, of the revised statutes.

The president appointed Messrs. Wright and Wakeley as a committee of two, to act in conjunction with the assembly committee, appointed in pursuance of section 3, chapter 21, of the revised statutes.

Mr. Wakeley moved a reconsideration of the vote by which "all after the enacting clause" was stricken out of the bill

Which was disagreed to.

And the ayes and noes having been called for,
