the petition of the stockholders of the Concord Bank, praying that the sum of five hundred dollars, paid by said bank into the treasury in the year 1840, may be refunded, reported the following resolution:

Resolved, That the petitioners have leave to bring in a bill.

Mr. Morrill, from the committee on Engrossed Bills, reported that they had carefully examined and found correctly engrossed, a resolution in favor of Reuben D. Mooers;

Mr. Sawyer of Atkinson, from the committee to whom was referred the message of His Excellency the Governor, transmitting the resolutions of Massachusetts and Missouri, respecting the annexation of Texas and the occupation of Oregon, made a report, whereupon

Mr. Wadleigh of Meredith, from the committee appointed to nominate a door-keeper, in place of Reuben D. Mooers, resigned, made a report, whereupon—

The House proceeded in the order of the day to the consideration of a bill, entitled "An act in addition to an act, entitled 'An act to establish a corporation by the name of the Nashua Manufacturing company;'

Mr. McQuesten of Litchfield proposed so to amend said bill, as that the act should take effect on the first day of December next, instead of from its passage, as provided by the bill. On motion of Mr. Nettleton

On motion of Mr. Stevens of Bristol

Resolved, That the rules be so far suspended that said bill be read a third time at the present time.

Resolved, That it pass, and that its title be as aforesaid. Ordered, That the clerk request the concurrence of the Senate therein.

On motion of Mr. Quimby

Resolved, That the committee on the Judiciary be instructed to inquire into the expediency of so amending the 67th chapter of the Revised Statutes of the State of New Hampshire, that the court of common pleas shall be obliged to allow such sum or sums as shall be actually paid by. the several towns in the State, for clothing and support of county paupers, unless there has evidently been some mismanagement by said towns, in supporting and clothing said paupers.

Mr. Pitman submitted the following resolution:

Resolved, That the committee on Education be instructed to inquire into the expediency of reporting a bill, granting the public lands belonging to the State, to the county of Coos, to be appropriated for the benefit of common schools in said county.

And the question being put upon the adoption of said resolution,

It was decided in the negative.

The following message was received from the Senate by their clerk:

"Mr. Speaker-The Senate concur with the House of Representatives in the passage of a resolution in favor of Reuben D. Mooers.

The Senate have indefinitely postponed the bill, entitled "An act for the allowance of fees of witnesses in certain cases."

The Senate have passed bills with the following titles, in which they ask the concurrence of the House of Representatives:

"An act in addition to au act to incorporate certain persons by by the name of the Proprietors of the Cheshire Bridge corporation," passed Dec. 11, 1804;

"An act in amendment of chapter 67 of the Revised Statutes."

The House proceeded to the consideration of the foregoing bill, entitled "An act in amendment of chapter 67 of the Revised Statutes," which came down from the Senate.

Said bill was read a first and second time.

Ordered, That it be referred to the committee on the Judiciary.

The House proceeded to the consideration of the bill, entitled "An act in addition to an act to incorporate certain persons by the name of the Proprietors of the Cheshire Bridge corporation, approved Dec. 11, 1804;"

Mr. Peabody of Sullivan submitted the following resolution: Resolved, That when the House adjourn this forenoon, they adjourn to meet again to-morrow at ten o'clock in the forenoon.

Mr. Boylston proposed so to amend said resolution, as that the House should adjourn to two o'clock this afternoon, which amendment was adopted.

The resolution as amended was then adopted.

Agreeably to previous notice and by leave, Mr. Nay introduced a bill, entitled "An act in addition to and in amendment of chapter 53 of the Revised Statutes;"

Which was read a first time.

Agreeably to previous notice, and by leave, Mr. Rogers introduced a bill, entitled "An act to incorporate the Northern Extension and Connecticut River Valley Railroad;"

The House reconsidered their vote upon the resolution fixing upon the hour for the meeting of the House this afternoon. On motion of Mr. Kenrick

The House reconsidered their vote upon the amendment proposed by Mr. Boylston to said resolution.

Mr. Boylston then proposed so to amend said resolution, as

that the House should adjourn to one half past one o'clock this afternoon, which amendment was adopted.

The resolution as amended was then adopted.

The following message was received from the Senate by their clerk:

"Mr. Speaker-The Senate concur with the House of Representatives in the passage of a bill, entitled "An act to prohibit members of the legislature from receiving pay when not in actual attendance upon the duties thereof," with sundry amendments, in which they ask the concurrence of the House."

The House proceeded to the consideration of the foregoing bill, entitled "An act to prohibit members of the legislature from receiving pay when not in actual attendance upon the duties thereof," with the amendments which came down from the Senate. Mr. Hibbard presented the following resolutions, which were unanimously adopted:

Pesolved by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened, That this Legislature have heard with feelings of the most profound regret, the tidings of the recent death of General ANDREW JACKSON.

Resolved, That we deeply sympathize with the friends of humanity every where, in the common sorrow for this melancholy event, which has transferred from our midst the successful warrior, the far-sighted statesman, and the fearless, true-hearted patriot, whose decease, now in the maturity of his years and of his glory, though long anticipated, falls upon us as a great national bereavement, and throws a whole people into deep and general mourning.

Resolved, That His Excellency the Governor be requested to
