The following message was received from the Senate by their clerk:

"Mr. Speaker-The Senate concur with the House of Representatives, in the passage of a bill, entitled "An act to incorporate the Merrimack County Bank."

The Senate have passed a bill, entitled "An act to authorize contiguous school districts to associate together to establish and maintain high schools," in which they ask the concurrence of the House."

The House proceeded to the consideration of the foregoing bill; entitled "An act to authorize contiguous school districts to associate together to establish and maintain high schools;"

Which was read a first and second time.

Ordered, That it be referred to the committee on Education. Mr. Page of Sutton, from the committee on Towns and Parishes, to whom was referred the bill, entitled "An act to sever a part of the town of Grantham and annex the same to the town of Plainfield," reported said bill in a new draft;

Which was read a first time.

Mr. Batchelder of Haverhill moved that said bill be read a second time at the present time.

On motion of Mr. Boylston

Resolved, That said bill lie upon the table.

Mr. Blaisdell of Gilford, from the committee on Education, to whom were referred the petition of the State Common School Convention, and the petition of the superintending committee of the town of Dublin, praying for further legislation in relation to common schols, by leave, reported a bill, entitled "An act in amendment of the seventy-third chapter of the Revised Statutes;" Which was read a first time.

Ordered, That it be read a second time to-morrow forenoon at eleven o'clock.

On motion of Mr. Fowler

The House resumed the consideration of the report of the Ju

diciary committee, upon the subject of the appointment of the railroad commissioners by the people at large or the legislature. The resolution reported by said committee, declaring it inexpedient to legislate upon the subject, having been rejected,

Mr. Boylston moved that the report be recommitted, with instructions to said committee to report a bill, providing for the election of railroad commissioners by the legislature,

And the question being put upon the recommitment,

It was decided in the negative.

Mr. Peirce of Dover moved that the further consideration of said report be postponed to the next session of the legislature. Mr. Sawyer of Atkinson moved that the further consideration of said report be indefinitely postponed.

Mr. Stevens of Bristol moved that the report lie upon the table,

And the question being put,

It was decided in the negative.

The question recurring, upon the motion indefinitely to postpone the further consideration of said report, and being put, It was decided in the affirmative.

On motion

The House adjourned.

FRIDAY, JUNE 20, 1845.

Mr. Wadleigh of Meredith presented the petition of J. F. Clough and others, praying for a repeal or modification of the license law;

Mr. Fowler presented the petition of James W. Hillsgrove and wife, praying for relief in obtaining possession of their three minor female children, now detained by the society of Shakers in Canterbury.

Ordered, That said petitions be referred to the committee on the Judiciary.

Mr. Boylston presented the petition of the Hillsborough County Common School Association, praying for legislative provisions for the improvement of common schools.

Ordered, That it be referred to the committee on Education. Mr. Sawyer of Wakefield presented the petition of Josiah H.

Hobbs and another, praying for an amendment to the charter of the Great Falls and Conway Railroad.

Ordered, That it be referred to the committee on Roads, Bridges and Canals.

Mr. Orcutt presented the petition of Simeon Stevens and others, praying for the severance of a tract of land from Derry, and the annexation of the same to Chester.

Ordered, That it be referred to the committee on Towns and Parishes.

Mr. Hilton presented the petition of field officers of the 33d regiment of N. H. militia;

Mr. Moore presented the petition of W.W.Cochran and others;
Mr. Sinclair presented the petition of H. A. P. Hyde;
All praying for the removal of officers.

Ordered, That said petitions be referred to the committee on Military Affairs.

Mr. Nesmith, from the committee on the Judiciary, who were instructed to inquire into the expediency of authorizing married women to dispose by will of their real or personal estate, with the consent of their husbands, reported a bill, entitled "An act authorizing married women to devise their real estate,"

Which was read a first time.

Ordered, That it be read a second time this foreeoon at eleven o'clock.

Mr. Sawyer of Wakefield, from the committee on Roads, Bridges and Canals, to whom were referred sundry petitions, praying for the grant of a charter for a railroad from Portsmouth, through Newmarket to Concord, reported a bill, entitled "An act to incorporate the Portsmouth, Newmarket and Concord Railroad,"

Which was read a first time.

Ordered, That it be read a second time this forenoon at eleven o'clock.

Mr. Boylston, from the same committee, to whom was referred the bill, entitled "An act in addition to an act, to incorporate certain persons by the name of the proprietors of the Cheshire Bridge corporation," approved Dec. 11, 1804, reported said bill without amendment.

Ordered, That said bill be read a third time this afternoon at three o'clock.

Mr. Ayer, from the same committee, to whom was referred the report of the directors of the Eastern Railroad in New Hampshire, made a report, whereupon

Resolved, That said report is full and satisfactory, and that the same be filed in the office of the secretary of state.
