proved December 25, 1844, and to report by bill or otherwise. Mr. Knowlton gave notice, that he will to-morrow ask leave to introduce a bill, entitled "An act in amendment of chapter 37 of the Revised Statutes."

Agreeably to previous notice and by leave, Mr. Edwards introduced a bill, entitled "An act relating to the incorporation of railroad companies;"

Which was read a first and second time.

Ordered, That it be referred to the committee on Roads, Bridges and Canals.

On motion of Mr. Peirce of Dover

Resolved, That the committee on the Judiciary be instructed to inquire into the expediency of altering or amending chapter 142 of the Revised Statutes, and report by bill or otherwise.

The House proceeded to the consideration of the special or der of the day upon the bill, entitled "An act in amendment of an act, entitled an act to alter the times of holding the terms of the court of common pleas, approved December 28, 1844." Said bill was as follows:

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE.

In the year one thousand eight hundred and forty-five. AN ACT in amendment of an act, entitled an act to alter the times of holding the terms of the court of common pleas, approved December 28, 1844.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened, That the court of common pleas for the county of Hillsborough shall be holden annually at Amherst, on the third Tuesday of April and on the fourth Tuesday of October.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That so much of chapter 130 of the laws of New Hampshire, approved December 28, 1844, entitled an act to alter the times of holding the terms of the courts of common pleas, as provides for a term of the court of common pleas to be holden at Manchester, and for a term of said court to be holden at Amherst on the second Tuesday of January, be and the same is hereby repealed.

Mr. Foster of Manchester proposed to amend said bill by striking out all after the enacting clause, and inserting the following substitute:

That so much of chapter 130 of the laws of New Hampshire, approved December 28, 1844, entitled "An act to alter the times

of holding the terms of the courts of common pleas," as provides for the term of the court of common pleas to be holden at Amherst on the second Tuesday of January, be and the same is hereby repealed.

On the question,

Shall the amendment be adopted?

After debate, the yeas and nays were called for.

Those who voted in the affirmative were, Messrs.

So the affirmative of the question prevailed, and the amend ment was adopted.

Ordered, That said bill be read a third time to-morrow afternoon at three o'clock.

The following message was received from the Senate by their

clerk:

"Mr. Speaker-The Senate have postponed indefinitely the bill, entitled "An act in amendment of chapter 70 of the Revised Statutes."

The Senate concur with the House of Representatives in the appointment of a committee to wait upon Samuel G. Berry, and inform him of his election to the office of warden of the State Prison, and if he accept said office, to receive from him the bond required by law, and to inform His Excellency the Governor of said appointment, and have on their part joined Mr. Cross.

The Senate concur with the House of Representatives in the passage of bills with the following titles, to wit:

"An act to incorporate the Dover Bank;"

"An act in amendment of chapter 199 of the Revised Statutes;"

"An act in amendment of an act, entitled an act to regulate the times and places of holding the court of probate within and for the county of Rockingham, passed December 27, 1844;"

"An act in amendment of the one hundred and eighty-fourth chapter of the Revised Statutes."

The Senate concur with the House of Representatives in the passage of a bill, entitled "An act authorizing married women to devise their real estate," with an amendment, in which they ask the concurrence of the House."

The House proceeded to the consideration of the bill, entitled "An act authorizing married women to devise their real estate,' with the amendment which came down from the Senate.

On the question,

Will the House concur with the Senate in the adoption of the foregoing amendment?

It was decided in the affirmative.

Ordered, That the clerk inform the Senate thereof.

On motion

The House resumed the consideration of the bill, entitled “An act in addition to an act relative to representing stock in certain cases, passed Dec. 27, 1844."
