The nomination of Digby V. Bell was referred to the executive

committee.

The Senate was called to order by the President, who announced the following communication from the Eexecutive:

I hereby nominate Ralph B. Goble to be Prosecuting Attorney for Allegan county, for the constitutional term.

I also nominate James Brown to be Prosecuting Attorney for Ber. rien county, for the constitutional term to commence on the twentythird day of July next, when his present term of office will expire.

I also nominate William C. Rowley to be Prosecuting Attorney for Calhoun county for the constitutional term to commence on the twelfth day of March next, when the official term of the present incumbent will expire.

I also nominate Daniel L. Case to be Prosecuting Attorney for Ingham county for the constitutional term, to commence on the first day of March next, when his present term of office will expire.

I also nominate Joseph Miller, jun. to be Prosecuting Attorney for Kalamazoo county, for the constitutional term to commence on the fourteenth day of February next, when the official term of the present incumbent will expire.

I also nominate Alfred D. Rathbone to be Prosecuting Attorney for Kent county, for the constitutional term, to commence on the seventeenth day of March next, when the official term of the present incumbent will expire.

I also nominate Lewis H. Hewett to be Prosecuting Attorney for Livingston county for the constitutional term, to commence on the fourteenth day of March next, when the official term of the present incumbent will expire.

I also nominate Hestor L. Stevens to be prosecuting Attorney for Oakland county, for the constitutional term.

I also nominate Henry C. Gilbert to be Prosecuting Attorney for Branch county for the constitutional term to commence on the twentieth day of February next, when his present term of office will expire.

I also nominate Jonathan Kearsley of Wayne, Henry Warner of Washtenaw and James J. Godfroy of Monroe, to be appraisers under an act entitled "an act for the regulation of Internal Improvements," approved March 25th, 1844.

I also nominate Lewis Bascom to be Inspector of the State Prison for three years from the first Monday of January instant.

I also nominate Robert J. S. Page and Charles D. Little to be Masters in Chancery for 'Genesee county, and the same Charles D. Little to be notary public for said county.

I also nominate Anderson Bump to be notary public for Genesee county.

I also nominate Lyman M. Richmond to be notary public for Clinton county.

I also nominate Oven Sharp, Joseph Woodhouse, Almon M. Chapin, Amos E. Steele, Joseph P. Cowles, David Waite, Joseph H. Kibbon, Griffin Paddock, Amaziah Winchell, Levi Rowley and Daniel L. Case, to be notaries public for Ingham county.

I also nominate Thomas M. Cooley to be Master in Chancery for Lenawee county.

I also nominate Ahira G. Eastman, Lorenzo Tabor, John B. Allen Velorus R. Payne, and Martin H. Webb to be notaries public for Lenawee county.

I also nominate William T. Mitchell to be Master in Chancery for Macomb county.

I also nominate Mason Harris and Daniel Shattuck to be notaries public for Macomb county.

I also nominate Emery O. Briggs and Elisha Durkee to be notaries public for Van Buren county.

I also nominate Ebenezer McIlvaine to be Master in Chancery for Berrien county.

I also nominate Rufus W. Landon, Luther R. Palmer and Darius B. Cook, to be notaries public for Berrien county.

I also nominate Elijah W. Morgan and Dwight Webb, to be Masters in Chancery for Washtenaw county.

I also nominate John N. Gott to be Master in Chancery for Washtenaw county, for the legal term to commence on the twenty-first day of February next, when his present term of office will expire, I also nominate Austin M. Gould to be Master in Chancery for Washtenaw county.

I also nominate James M. Wilcoxson to be notary public for Washtenaw County.

I also nominate George F. Ball to be notary public for Lapeer county.

Which was read and referred to the executive committee. Mr. Hale from the executive committee to whom was referred the message of the Governor of the 26th instant, reported the same back to the Senate, with the recommendation that the Senate do advise and consent to the nomination of Digby V. Bell, to the office of Auditor General, and that the nomination of Gideon O. Whittemore to the office of Secretary of State be rejected.

The nomination of Gideon O. Whittemore to be Secretary of State, was advised and consented by the following vote:

The Senate was called to order by the President.

Mr. Hale from the executive committee to whom was referred the executive communication of yesterday, reported in favor of advising and consenting to all of the nominations therein contained with the exception of Dwight Webb, Austin M. Gould and James M. Wilcox

son.

On motion of Mr. Thurber,

The last named nominations were laid upon the table, and the Senate advised and consented to the balance of the nominations by the following vote:

The nomination of Austin M. Gould being under consideration,

Mr. Littlejohn offered the following resolution which was adopted: Resolved, That the nomination of Austin M. Gould of Washtenaw county, to the office of Master in Chancery, be indefinitely postponed for the sole reason that the Senate believe it to be impolitic for the same individual to hold at the same time the offices of Register in Chancery and Master in Chancery.

The doors were then opened.
