Mr. PRESIDENT: The Committee on Engrossment have examined and find correctly engrossed Senate Bill No. 621-An Act concerning wharves. Also, Senate Bill No. 613-An Act granting leave of absence to Thomas H. Holt, Auditor of the City and County of San Francisco.

Also, Senate Bill No. 618-An Act to grant leave of absence to the Surveyor-General and Register of the State Land Office.

Also, Senate Bill No. 619-An Act to amend section one of an Act entitled an Act to amend an Act entitled an Act to incorporate the City of Los Angeles, approved March fifth, eighteen hundred and sixty-eight, approved March thirtieth, eighteen hundred and sixty-eight.

Also, Senate Bill No. 626-An Act to amend an Act to raise a fund for the improvement of Napa City, approved January twenty-fourth, eighteen hundred and seventy.

Also, Senate Bill No. 612-An Act concerning gas companies.

Also, Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 55-Relative to disputed territory between Arizona and California.

Also, Senate Bill No. 625-An Act to authorize the Board of Supervisors of Santa Clara County to issue bonds and apply the proceeds thereof to the purchasing of school and other furniture for the State Normal School.

Mr. Conn, from the Committee on Internal Improvements, made the following report:

Mr. PRESIDENT: The Committee on Internal Improvements, to whom was referred Assembly Bill No. 162-An Act to authorize E. J. Brickell, his associates and assigns, to improve the channel of the Truckee River, from its source to the Town of Truckee, and to erect flood-gates therein and collect tolls-the committee having duly considered the bill, beg leave to report, that there seems to be a necessity for the improvement contemplated, and that it would be advantageous and beneficial to the business of floating lumber, timber, etc., and greatly benefit the lumber interest to have the channel of said river cleared of obstructions and otherwise improved; yet the committee are unanimous in the opinion that this bill is liable to all the objections urged against special franchises of this character, they therefore report the same back without recommendation.

Mr. Curtis, from the Committee on Claims, made the following report: Mr PRESIDENT: The Committee on Claims have had under consideration Senate Bill No. 261-An Act to appropriate money to pay the outstanding Indian war bonds issued by the State of California under an Act of the Legislature, approved May third, eighteen hundred and fiftytwo, and Acts supplementary thereto; also, Senate Bill No. 71-An Act to appropriate money to pay the outstanding Indian war bonds issued. by the State of California under an Act of the Legislature, approved May third, eighteen hundred and fifty two, and Acts supplementary thereto; also, Senate Bill No. 308-An Act to appropriate money to pay the outstanding Indian war bonds issued by the State of California under an Act of the Legislature, approved May third, eighteen hundred and fifty two, and Acts supplementary thereto; also, Senate Bill No. 426-An Act to pay the claim of D. O. Mills & Co-report them back to the Senate, and respectfully recommend their passage.

Your committee have also considered Senate Bill No. 316-An Act to provide for the payment of certain outstanding bonds of the State of California; also, Senate Bill No. 169-An Act to provide for the payment of a certain outstanding bond of the State of California-report the two last named bills back to the Senate, and recommend that they do not pass.

Mr. Comte, from the Sacramento delegation, made the following report:

Mr. PRESIDENT: The Sacramento delegation, to whom was referred Assembly Bill No. 441-report the same back with an amendment, and recommend that the Senate recede from its action in adopting the substitute, and that the original bill be passed as amended.

Mr. PRESIDENT: A minority of your Committee on Finance, to whom was referred Senate Bill No. 355-An Act for the endowment of the State University-have had the same under consideration, and would recommend that the appropriation proposed in said bill be made to the Common School Fund of the State, and that said endowment bill for the benefit of the University do not pass.

Mr. PRESIDENT: Your Committee on Finance, to whom was referred Assembly Bill No. 451-An Act to provide for the funded indebtedness of the State of California, and to contract a funded debt for that purpose-have had the same under consideration, and recommend the pas sage of the same with amendments.

Also, concurred in the first of Senate amendments to Assembly Bill No. 196, and refused to concur in the second and third amendments to said bill.

Also, to return a Senate resolution requesting the return of Senate Bill No. 538 for correction, as said resolution does not state what correction is wanted to be made.

Also, adopted Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 54-Relative to correcting error in Senate Bill No. 577.
