III.-INDEX TO SPECIMENS OF ENGLISH.

Most of the passages from old writers in this volume have such of their words as are still current English spelt in the way that last diverts attention from the thoughts they stand for; but in the following works all accidents of spelling, &c., have been left untouched, that they may serve as illustrations of the language in successive periods.

The superb original Engravings which will appear in this great work have been prepared by some of the most eminent living Artists of Germany and the East, who have depicted the grand monuments of past times and the striking features which meet the eye of the modern traveller in a manner which has never before been attempted.

MAGAZINE of ART.

The Proprietors of the Magazine of Art have much pleasure in announcing that its success is so continuous and gratifying as to justify them in developing the Magazine into the form which, from the commencement they had hoped it might ultimately reach. They therefore beg to announce that with an early Part not only will the number of pages be still further extended, but the size of the page will be also considerably Enlarged, and the general character of the Magazine so far improved as to more than justify, it is believed, the increased price (One Shilling) at which it will be published. . Full particulars will be found in the Part of the Magazine of Art published September 27, price 7d. CASSELL, PETTER, GALPIN & CO., Ludgate Hill, London.
