EXTRACT FROM THE REV. HUGH WHITE'S (OF DUBLIN)
MEDITATIONS.

"A most valuable work, entitled 'Comfort in Affliction,' by the Rev. James Buchanan, North Leith,-which I would affectionately recommend to every Christian mourner who desires to drink deeply of the refreshing streams which the Fountain of all Comfort-the Word of God-supplies; for it is from this sacred source the pious and talented author of this excellent work derives' Comfort in Affliction,' which his pages so eloquently and attractively set forth."

This work is intended to convey, in a simple form, all the information necessary for a right understanding of the New Testament. Every thing is explained as it occurs in the Scriptures, without supposing any preparatory knowledge. An application is made of such points as seem to be most obvious in the passage; and directions are given for prayer upon the subject.

The work is published in monthly numbers; of which the volume just completed contains twenty-three. The thirty-fifth number appeared on the 1st of March, 1837. Each number is sold for 2d.; or 1s. 9d. a dozen; or 14s. a hundred.

"It is filled with allusions and quotations from the inspired volume, and we trust may thus serve to effect the purpose of the writer's piety. We have the pleasure of pronouncing his little work a very pleasing and useful one, and wish it, therefore, may become a favourite with the public."-Christian Remembrancer and Church of Eng land Magazine, Jan. 1838.
