A. But I have used none of these things, • c°r.
neither have I written these things, that it ^W. should be so done unto me, for it were better for me to die, than that any man should make my glorying void. For though I preach the gospel, 1 have nothing to glory of; for necessity is laid upon me, yea, woe is unto me if I preach not the gospel: for if I do this thing willingly', I have a reward; but if against; my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me, What is my reward then? Verily, that when I preach the gospel, I make the gospel of Christ: without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.
I have coveted no man's silver or gold, Act» or apparel. Yea, ye yourselves know, 34,35,' that these hands have ministered unto my necessities, and to them that were with me. I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring, ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.
Q^ // is observable, that the aposile every ivhere makes special mention among the qualifications of teachers, that they be not given to filthy lucre. What ought we then to think of those teachers, who will not preach without G 2 hire?
hire? Tea, that will by violence take from those who receive no spirituals from them? Are they like to be the ministers of Christ f Or .what else frith the scripture os such?
T,6l'*k A. Yea, they are greedy dogs, which can never have enough; and they are shepherds that cannot understand; they all look to their own way, every one for his gain from his quarter.
EzA. Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel, prophesy and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God unto the shepherds, Woe be to the shepherds of Israel, that do feed themselves. Should not the shepherds feed the flocks? Ye eat the fat, and ye clothe you with the wool, ye kill them that are fed; but ye feed not the flock. As I live, saith the Lord God, surely, because my flock became a prey, and my flock became meat to every beast of the field; because there was no shepherd, neither did my shepherds search for my flock; but the shepherds fed themselves, and fed not my flock.
Micah Thus saith the Lord, concerning the prophets that make my people err, that bite with their teeth, and cry, Peace; and he that putteth not into their mouths, they even prepare war against him. The heads thereof judge for reward, and the priests thereof teach for hire, and the prophets
thereof divine for money; yet will tliey lean upon the Lord, and say, Is not-the Lord amongst us f None evil can come upon us»
CK These are plain testimonies from the prophets? are there none such from the apostles?
A. Perverse disputings of men of corrupt i Tim. minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing t„ [-Q, that gain is godliness: from fnch withdraw thyself. But godliness with contentment is great gain: for we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out; and having food and raiment, let us be therewith content. But they that will be rich, sall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil; -which, while some coveted after, they have erred from the saith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
For men shall be lovers of their own-.» Tim. selves covetous, boasters, proud, bias-3-a. phemers, disobedient to parents, unthank- _ fol, unholy.
For there are many unruly and vainTit-1talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision, whose mourhs must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's ,

But there were salse prophets also among 14, i5- the people, even as there shall be salse teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways, by reason of whom, the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. And through covetousness shall they with, feigned words make merchandize of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation flumbereth not: having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls; an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children, who have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness, jude Woe unto them, for -they have gone in
the way of Cain, and run greedily, after the errors of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core. These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts, and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having mens persons in admiration, because of advantage.
C^ Ought there to be any order in the church of God P
L°"o A' ^et a^ thing3 be d°ne decently and in order.
Q. What good order is prescribed in the church concerning preachers? Is it Jit that only one or two speak? or may more, if moved thereunto?
A. If any thing be revealed to another iCor^. that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace: 3°'°33for ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted, And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets: for God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.
Q. Is there any promise that daughters, as well as sons, shall prophesy under the gospel?
A. And it shall come to pass afterwards, Joci that I will pour out of my Spirit upon all *.s8. flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy; your old men - shall dream . dreams, your young men shall see visions.
Q^ Is that promise fulfilled and to be fulfilled?
A. But this is that which was spoken by Acts*. the prophet Joel: And it shall come to16'1'pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy; and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams. . .
CK Is there any such instance os old in the scriptures?
