RULES FOR THE REGULATION

OF THE

GENEEAL ASSEMBLY LIBBABY.

Agreed to by the Joint Library Committee, 31st January, 1878.

I. The Library shall bo open to Members of the Legislature between the heurs of 9 a.m. and the rising of the Houso when Parliament is in session.

II. Any Member whe desires to take out any volumes from the Library is to ontor the title of the book in the register on the table, and sign his name thereto.

III. In eases whero Members are unable to apply and give their signature personally, a memorandum addressed to the Librarian, specifying the work and boaring the Member's signature, shall be deemed sufficient; and such memorandum shall bo equivalent to a Member's signature of receipt for the volume or volumes issued, with all responsibility attaching thereto.

IV. Seven days are allowed for each octavo volume, but, unless the same is inquired for, a strict compliance with this rule will not be insisted on.

V. No Member shall havo in his possession, at the same time, more than two separate works, nor keep any work longer than fourteen days.

VI. Books retained beyond fourteen days will bo writton for by the Librarian, and must be returned immediately on such application. A Member desiring to keep a work more than fourteen days must return the same to the Librarian on the expiration of fourteen days from issue, and enter a fresh application, if no other application stand in the way.

VII. Members will be held responsible for the condition and safe keeping of volumes standing in their names; and any volume lost or defaced must be made geod by the Member in whese name it stands, or the set, supposing it to form one of a set.

VIII. When a Momber returns any volume he will make an entry to that effect, specifying the date, in a column set apart for that purposo in the Register, and leave it with the Librarian.

IX. Valuable Illustrated Works, Maps, and Books of General Reference, must not be removed from the Library.

X. Members or Committees of either Houso desirous of referring to Newspapers on the files will be allowed the complete file for roference, either in the House or Committee Rooms; but in no case must a Newspaper be removed from the filo.

XI. Monthly and Quarterly Periodicals may be issued to Members in the same manner as other books, after fourteen days from the date of their reception in the Library, and four days will be allowed for the use of such, but not moro than one number shall be taken out at the same time.

XII. Any person, not being a Member of either Houso of the Legislature, whe shall transfer any book to any other person instead of returning it to the Librarian, or whe shall return any book in a dirty, damaged, or defective state, or with any written notes or memorandum upon it, will have his admission to the Library cancelled.

Xin. After each Session, as soon as convenient, the Librarian shall take an account of the books in the Library, and for that purpose shall address a circular to each Member whe has any volume in his possession, in order that the same may be returned within a given time.

XIV. The Librarian is required to report to the Library Committee any infringement of these Rules.

XV. During the Recess, the Library will be open from 9.30 a.m. till 5 p.m., except on Saturdays, when the Library will close at 4 p.m., and on Sundays, when it will be open from 2 to 4 p.m.
