The message from the Council was taken up, when the undermentioned bills were read the first and second times, to wit:

No. 12, "A bill to amend an act to prevent tresspass and other injuries being done to the possessions of settlers on public lands and to define the rights of possessions on said lands, approved January 4th, 1840.

No. 24, “A bill to authorize Claudon Stoughton to build and maintain a dam across Rock river; and also to authorize An. son W. Pope and Virgil Pope to build and maintain a dam across said stream," and

On motion of Mr. Crossman,

Bill No. 7, (H. of R.) entitled "a bill to provide for the punishment of embezzling public money." was taken up, when the amendments of the Council were read and concurred in.

On motion of Mr. Hamilton,

The House resolved itself into the committee of the whole House, Mr. Crossman in the chair, for the consideration, of bill No. 11, (H. of R.) entitled "a bill for an act to amend an act regulating taverns and groceries."

After a short time spent therein, the committee rose and reported the same back to the House with amendments; which were concurred in.

Ordered, That said bill be engrossed for a third reading.

Mr. Thompson, from the committee on engrossed bills, reported No. 20, to be correctly engrossed, entitled "a bill for the collection of certain taxes in the county of Milwaukee." On motion of Mr. Walker,

The House resolved itself into the committee of the whole house, Mr. Hamilton in the chair, having under counsideration the undermentioned bill from the Council, to wit: No. 17, “ a bill to incorporate the Prairieville manufacturing company."

And after a short time spent therein, the committee rose and reported the same back to the House without amendment. On motion of Mr. Hamilton,

Ordered, That said bill do lie on the table.

On motion of Mr. Platt,

The House resolved itself into the committee of the whole House, Mr Tripp in the chair, having under consideration bills of this House of the following titles, to wit:

No. 8, "a bill to estalish a territorial road from Prairie du Chien to Lake Superior,"

No. 19, “a bill regulating the manner of petitions to the Le. gislative Assembly," and the undermentioned bill from the Coun. cil, to wit:

No. 20, entitled "a bill for the preservation of deer in certain seasons."

And pending the report of the committee, a message from the Governor being announced, the Speaker resumed the chair, when the following message was received by Mr. Charles Doty, his private secretary, to wit:

"Mr. Speaker-I have been directed by the Governor to deliv. er to the House of Representatives a message in writing."

The committee of the whole resumed its session, and after a short time spent therein, rose and reported the said bill without amendments.

The amendment to bill No. 8 was adopted.

Mr. Judson moved to strike out all after the word "reasona ble" in the third section of the said bill.

Mr. Long from the committee on enrolled bills, reported the following to be correctly enrolled, to wit:

No. 27, [H. of R. file] entitled "a bill to repeal an act entitled an act to incorporate the Milwaukee manufacturing and hydraulic company, approved March 11th, 1839."

The following resolution offered on the 27th, inst., was taken up and adopted, to wit:
