Mr. Hamilton by leave presented the account of R. L. Ream for rent of office, fuel, candles, &c. as treasurer of the Territory, which was

Referred to the committee on territorial expenditures.

The Speaker laid before the House the following messages, from the Governor, heretofore received, which were read and are as follows, to wit:

To the House of Representatives:

I have this day approved and signed a bill entitled "an act to authorise Levi Godfrey, Philo Belden, and Hiland S. Hulbert to build and maintain a dam on Fox River," and deposited it in the office of the Secretary of the Territory.

I have this day approved and signed a bill entitled “an act in relation to the duties of certain territorial officers," and a bill entitled "an act to authorize the village of Racine to raise money, and for other purposes," and deposited the same in the office of the Secretary of the Territory.

Mr. Tripp, presented the remonstrance of inhabitants of the town of Troy in Walworth county against changing the name of said town.

Which was ordered to lie on the table.

Agreeably to previous notice, and by leave Mr. Meeker introduced

Bill No. 33, entitled "a bill to repeal an act regulating tav. erns and groceries."

Which was read the first and second times,

And referred to the committee on the judiciary.

Mr. Crossman, from the committee on engrossed bills, reported the following to be correctly engrossed, to wit:

No. 8, "a bill to estalish a territorial road from Prairie du Chien to Lake Superior,"

No. 11, "a bill for an act to amend an act entitled an act regulating taverns and groceries." and

No. 19, "a bill regulating petitions to the Legislative Assem. bly."

Mr. Walker offered the following resolution,

Which was adopted, to wit:

Resolved, by the House of Representatives, the Council concurring, that the Governor and Secretary of the Territory, should during the session of the Legislature be and they are hereby allowed, wood from the public wood pile, for their respective offi

ces.

Bills on their passage being announced,

No. 8 (H. of R. file) entitled "a bill to establish a Territo. rial road from Praire du Chien to Lake Superior,"

Was read the third time, and the question being put on the passage thereof,

It was determined in the affirmative.

And the ayes and noes being called for,
Those who voted in the affirmative are,

Messrs. Agry, Bartlett, Capron, Crossman, Darling, Hicks, Hopkins, Hunkins, Long, Manahan, Masters, Olin, Palmer, Platt, Price, Thompson, Walker, and Ellis, [Speaker]-18. Those who voted in the negative are,

Messrs. Hamilton, Judson, Meeker, Parsons, Tripp, Trowbridge, and Van Vleet-7.

The title of the bill was then agreed to.

Bill No. 11, [H. of R. file] entitled "a bill for an act entitled an act to amend an act regulating taverns and groceries," Was then read the third time, passed and the title thereof agreed to.

Mr. Agry made a motion that bill No. 19, [H. of R. file,] entitled "a bill regulating the manner of petitions to the Legis. lative Assembly," be reccommitted to the committee of the whole House.

Aad pending the question thereon,

Mr, Hamilton moved that the bill be indefinitely postponed. Which motion being put, it was determined in the negative. And the ayes and noes having been called for,

Those who voted in the affirmative, are

Messrs. Judson, Masters, Trowbridge, Van Vliet and Wal. ker-5.

Those who voted in the negative, are

Messrs. Agry, Bartlett, Capron, Crossman, Hamilton, Hicks, Hopkins, Hunkins, Long, Manahan, Meeker, Olin, Palmer, Platt, Parsons, Price, Thompson, Tripp, and Ellis [Speaker.]—19.

Mr. Agry then by leave, withdrew his motion, when

The said bill was referred to the committee on the judiciary.

Bill No. 15, [C. F.] entitled "a bill to regulate the fees of clerks in cases of naturalization,"

Was read the third time, when

Mr. Thompson moved that the bill be referred to the commit. tee on the judiciary.

Which was disagreed to.

By the unanimous consent of the house the said bill was then amended by inserting in the first section, the word "shall," before the word "receive."

The bill was then passed and the title thereof agreed to.

Bill No. 18, [C. F.] entitled "a bill to provide for the elec. tion of Territorial printer."

Was read the third time, and the question being put on the passage thereof.

It was determined in the affirmative.

And the ayes and noes being called for,

Those who voted in the affirmative, are

Messrs. Agry, Bartlett, Crossman, Darling, Hopkins, Hunkins, Long, Manahan, Masters, Mecker, Olin, Parsons, Price, Trowbridge, Walker and Ellis, (Speaker)—16.

Those who voted in the negative are

Messrs. Capron, Hamilton, Hicks, Judson, Palmer, Platt, Thompson, Tripp and Van Vliet.-9.

The title of the said bill was then agreed to.

On motion of Mr. Platt,

The House resolved itself into the committee of the whole House, Mr. Capron in the chair, having under consideration the following bills of this House to wit:

No. 26, "a bill to establish and provide for the use of a uni. form orthography of the name of this Territory."

No. 27, "a bill to repeal an act entitled an act to incorporate

the Milwaukee manufacturing and hydraulic company, approv. ed March 11th, 1639."

No. 31, "a bill to provide for laying out and establishing Territocial roads therein named."

And pending the report of the committee, the secretary of the Council being announced, the Speaker took the chair, when the following message was received:

"Mr. Speaker-I am directed to inform this House that the Council yesterday concurred in the amendments made by the house to bill

No. 29, (C. F.) entitled a bill to legalize certain township elections, and the official acts of township officers elected in April 1842,"

I am directed also to inform the House that the Council yesterday adopted a joint resolution directing the superintendent of Territorial property, not to receive certain stationery ;

And that the Governor has informed the Council that he did, on the 29th inst. approve and sign "an act to legalise the proceedings of the inhabitants of Winnebago county in the organiza. tion of said county."

The committee of the whole House again resumed its session, and after a short time spent therein, rose and by Mr. Capron reported that they had made some progress in bill No. 31, and had directed him to ask leave to sit again thereon, and had directed him to report bill No. 27, without amendment, and bill No 26 with an amendment.

Leave was granted to the committee to sit again on bill No. 31, and bill No. 27 was

Referred to the committee on corporations.

The amendment to bill No. 26 was agreed to; when

On motion of Mr. Olin,

The said bill was indefinitely postponed.
