Which were referred to the committee on corporations. Mr. Palmer presented the petition of Calvin Frink, praying that a ferry may be established across the Wisconsin river, star. ting from a point in Sauk county and landing in Dane county. Referred to the committee on corporations.

Mr. Price presented two remonstrances of inhabitants of Grant county against a division of said county; which were Referred to the committee on corporations.

Mr. Hamilton presented two petitions of inhabitants of Portage county, praying the organization of said county for judicial purposes; which were

Referred to the committee on the judiciary.

Mr. Price presented the statement of Edmund Hardson questing Mr. Dewey to erase sundry names from a petition praying a division of Grant county, and place them upon a re. monstrance against the same, and asked that it might be refer. red to the committee on corporations.

The question was then put on referring the said paper to the committee on corporations, and it passed in the affirmative. Mr. Hopkins offered the following resolution :

Resolved, That the use of the Hall of the House of Repre sentatives be granted unto the Rev. Mr. Mathews this evening, for the purpose of delivering an anti-slavery address.

Mr. Darling moved to amend the resolution by striking out the words "hall of the House of Representatives," and inserting the following words, to wit: "Supreme Court Room."

Mr. Meeker moved to amend the amendment by striking out the words supreme court Room," and insert "a room in tht basement story of the Capitol."

And the question being put on the amendment to the amend ment, it passed in the negative.

The question then recurred on the amendment offered by Mr. Darling,

And being put, was passed in the affirmative.

And the ayes and noes being called for,

Mr. Platt moved the following amendment, to wit:

Add to the resolution the following words "and for the pur. pose of sowing discord and dissension in the bosoms of the peo. ple, and to forward a dissolution of the Union."

Mr. Hicks offered the following as an amendment to the mendment, to wit:

"Provided that the front seats be reserved for colored persons.', Which was accepted by Mr. Platt.

Mr. Manahan then moved to amend the amendment as fol. lows, to wit:

Strike out the words "front seats," and insert in lieu thereof, "all the seats."

And pending the question thereon,

Mr. Crossman moved to lay the whole subject on the table. Which was determined in the negative.

And the ayes and noes being called for,

Those who voted in the affirmative are

Messrs. Crossman, Darling, Hicks, Judson, Manahan, Masters, Palmer, Platt, Parsons, and Eilis. [speaker]-10.

Those who voted in the negative are,

Messrs. Agry, Bartlett, Capron, Hopkins, Hunkins, Long, Meeker, Olin, Price, Thompson, Tripp, Trowbridge, Van Vliet and Walker,--14.

The question then recurred on Mr. Manahan's motion to a. mend, and it passed in the negative.

Mr. Hunkins moved to strike out the word "bosom" and inserting instead thereof, the word "amongst" which was accepted by Mr. Platt.

The question was then put on agreeing to the amendments as amended and it passed in the negative.

On motion of Mr. Hunkins,

The House then reconsidered the vote by which the resolution was amended by striking out the words, "Hall of the House of Representatives," and inserting instead thereof, the words "Supreme Court room.”

Mr. Darling then had leave to withdraw the amendment of." fered by him.

The question was then put on the passage of the resolution and it passed in the negative.

And the ayes and noes being called for,]

Those who voted in the affirmative are,

Messrs. Bartlett, Hopkins, Hunkins, Olin, Thompson, Van Vleet, and Walker-7.

Those who voted in the negative, are,

Messrs. Agry, Capron, Crossman, Darling, Hamilton, Hicks, Judson, Long, Manahan, Masters, Meeker, Palmer, Platt, Parsons, Price, Tripp, Trowbridge and Ellis, (Speaker)—18.

So the resolution was rejected.

Mr. Hamilton from the committee on the judiciary, to which bills Nos. 10 and 37 of this house were referred, reported the former with, and the letter without amendment.

Bill No. 10 was read the second time.

Mr. Hamilton from the same committee to which a petition and resolution were referred, reported the following bills, which were read the first and second times, to wit:

No. 41," a bill for an act to make valied the official acts of Frederick Burchard, a Justice of the Peace."

No. 42, "A bill for an act, authorizing the Governor to of fer rewards for the apprehension of criminals in certain cases. Mr. Crossman by leave presented two petitions, one from the inhabitants of Dane County, and the other from the board of County, Commissioners of the said County, relative to put ting a new roof on the Capitol for the use of certain rooms when not occupied by the Legislature.

Which were read, and referred to the delegation from the counties of Green, Dane, Jefferson, Dodge and Sauk.

Mr. Thompson from the committee on engrossed bills, report ed No. 2, "a bill supplementary to an act, to amend an aet, for assessing and collecting county revenue," and the amendmeut of this house to bill No. 26, (C. F.) "a bill to repeal the acts

concerning the militia, and for other purposos" to be correctly engrossed.

Mr. Manahan from the committee on corporations, to which several petitions were referred, made the following report, to

wit:

The committee on corporations have had under consideration, the petition of the the inhabitants of the Town of Aztalan, re. lative to changing the boundaries of part of said town, beg jeave to report, that the prayer of the petitioners be not granted, and your committee discharged.

Also the prayer of Samuel C. Russ and two others, relative to a dam on Fox River, your committee beg leave to report, that the prayer be not granted, and your committee discharged.

Also the petition of the citizens of Dane County, praying for a town to be laid off in said county; the prayer is superceded by the action of the county commissioners of said County, and in consequence, the committee beg leave to be discharged from further consideration of said prayer.

The committee were then discharged from the further consideration of the said several petitions.

Mr. Manahan from the same committee, to which was referred bill no 27, [H. of R. file] entitled "a bill to repeal an act entitled an act to incorporate the Milwaukee manufacturing and hydraulic company, approved March 11, 1836."

Reported the same back to the House without amendment.

Mr. Long, from the committee on enrolled bills, made the following report, to wit:

The committee on enrollment report that they did on the 4th day of April, 1843, present to his Excellency the Governor for his approval, a bill entitled.

"An act to authorize the Register of Deeds of Washington county to procure copies of certain records from the office of Register of Deeds of Milwaukee county."
