Mr. Hamilton, from the committee on the judiciary, to which several petitions were referred, reported bill

No. 50, entitled "a bill to make valid the official acts of George McWilliams, Edwin Hart, and Lyman Crossman, jus. tices of the peace."

Which was read the first and second times.

Mr. Capron offered the following joint resolution:
Resolved by the Council and House of Representatives:

That be and they are hereby appointed commissioners to examine and finally settle the accounts, vouchers, and all claims and matters in dispute, in relation to the public buildings at Madison, between the Territory of Wisconsin, and James D. Doty, and his suroties, and John F. Oniell, A. A. Bird, James Morrison and Daniel Baxter, and his sureties or with either of said parties, and that the commissioners report the result of their proceedings to the Legislature at the next session.

On motion of Mr. Hopkins,

Ordered, That said resolution do lie on the table.

On motion of Mr. Walker,

No. 53, [C. F.] "a bill to amend an act entitled an act to amend an act entitled an act to change the corporate limits and powers of the town of Milwaukie, approved January 11, 1840," Was indefinitely postponed.

Bill No. 50, [C. F.] entitled "a bill concerning the City of the Four Lakes,"

Was then read the first and second times.

On motion of Mr. Walker,

The house resolved itself into the committee of whole house, Mr. Capron in the chair, having under consideration bill

No. 60, [C. F.] "a bill to authorize the election of an addi. tional Justice of the Peace in certain Towns," and

And the undermentioned bills of this house, to wit:

No. 46, "a bill to divide the county of Grant, and to createthe county of Platte,"

No. 47, "a bill to divorce Rebecca Farrington, from the bonds of matrimony."

And pending the report of the committee thereon, the Secre tary of the Council being announced, the Speaker took the chair, when the following message was received, to wit:

"Mr. Speaker--The Governor of the Territory has notified the Council, by message dated the 10th April 1843, that he had signed bills entitled as follows, viz :

"An act in relation to Dodge county."

"An act to change the names of certain towns in Walworth county."

"An act to alter the boundaries of certain towns in the coun. ties of Racine and Rock."

"An act to repeal the fourth section of an act entitled an act to organise the county of St. Croix, and to legalize the official acts of certain officers in said county, and for other purposes." Also, resolution entitled

"Resolution relative to wood furnished for the Legislative Assembly."

The Council have adopted the report of the joint committee of conference on bill

No. 8, [H. of R. file) entitled "a bill to establish a Territo. rial road from Prairie du Chien to Lake Superior,"

The Council have adopted

"A memorial of the Legislative Assembly of Wisconsin, pray.

ing that the office of Governor of the Territory may be elective

by the people."

The Council have considered the amendments made by the House to bill

No. 39, [C. F.]" a bill to amend an act entitled an act to provide for the government of the several towns in the Territo. ry, and for the revision of county government."

And have con curred in them with certain amendments; excepting the 4th and 8th amendments of the house, in which the Council refuses concurrence."

The committee of the whole resumed its session, and after a short time spent therein, rose and reported bills Nos. 46, and 60, back to the House without amendment, and bill 47, with an amendment.

The amendment to bill No. 47, was concurred in, and the bill ordered to be engrossed for a third reading.

Mr. Price moved that bill No. 46, be indefinitely postponed. And pending the question thereon,

A call of the house was made, and the Sergeant-at-arms directed to notify Messrs. Capron and Palmer that their attend. ance was required in the house.

Mr. Platt made a motion that an officer of the house be dispatched after the members who had left the House depending the call.

Which was agreed to, and the messenger sent accordingly. The absent members having appeared

Further proceedings in the call of the House were dispensed with.

The question was then put on postponing indefinitely bill No. 46, and it passed in the affirmative.

And the ayes and noes being called for,

Those who voted in the affirmative are,

Messrs. Agry, Crossman, Darling, Hamilton, Hunk ins, Long,

Manahan, Meeker, Masters, Olin, Palmer, Price, Trowbridge, Van Vleet, Walker and Ellis, (Speaker)-16.

Those who voted in the negative, are,

Messrs. Capron, Elmore, Hicks, Hopkins, Jadson, Parsons, Platt, Thompson, and Tripp-9.

So the bill was indefinitely postponed.

Bill No. 60, was then ordered to a third reading.

And by special order of the house was read the third time, passed, and the title thereof agreed to, the sixteenth rule of the house having been suspended for that purpose.

Mr. Platt, by leave, introduced resolution

No. 6, entitled "resolution relative to a division of Grant county."

Mr. Price moved that the resolution do lie on the table.
Which being put, was determined in the negative.

And the ayes and noes being called for,

Those who voted in the affirmative, are

Messrs. Agry, Capron, Crossman, Long, Manahan, Meeker, Olin, Palmer, Price, and Walker-10.

Those who voted in the negative, are,

Messrs. Darling, Elmore, Hamilton, Hicks, Hopkins, Hun. kins, Judson, Masters, Parsons, Platt, Thompson, Tripp, Trowbridge, Van Vliet and Ellis, [Speaker,] 15.

The resolution was then read the first and second times. Mr. Long from the committee on enrolled bills, reported the following to be correctly enrolled, to wit:

"An act to provide for laying out certain territorial roads." "An act to repeal certain parts of the several acts concern. ing the militia, and for other purposes."

"An act to authorize the erection of a bridge across Pike creek," and

Which were signed by the Speaker and ordered to be presented to the President of the Council, for his signature.

The message from the Council was then taken up, when the House receded from their fourth and eighth amendments, and concurred in all the amendments of the Council to the amend. ments of the House of Representatives to bill No. 39, [C. F.] entitled "a bill to amend an act to provide for the government of the several towns in the Territory, and for the revision of county government."

On motion of Mr. Elmore,

The House resolved itself into the committee of the whole House, Mr. Manahan in the chair, having under consideration, bill No. 56, from the Council, "a bill to amend the several acts relative to the town of Milwaukee," and bills of this house, as fol. lows:

No. 48, "a bill to provide for an additional term of the dis trict court in the county of Milwaukee."

No. 49, "a bill to amend an act entitled an act in relation to certain actions in ejectment."

After some time spent therein, the committee rose and reported bill No. 48, with amendment, and bill No. 56, without an amendment, and made no report on bill No. 49.

Bill No. 56, was then ordered to a third reading.

And pending the question on agreeing to the report of the committee on bill No. 48, and, on motion of Mr. Hopkins, The House adjourned until 2 o'clock, P. M.
