The house resolved itself into the committee of the whole, house, Mr. Platt in the chair, having under consideration bill No. 65,[C. F.]"a bill to provide for the payment of the expenses of the Legislative Assembly."

After some time spent therein, the committee rose, reported the progress made in the bill, and asked leave to sit again there. on, which was granted.

And then the House adjourned.

Friday, April 14, 1843.

The Journal of yesterday was read and corrected. Mr. Hamilton submitted the following resolution: Resolved, [the Council concurring] that a committee of two from each house be appointed who shall, with the aid of, and in the presence of the treasurer, cancel all the cirtificates issued in pursuance of an act to authorize the issuing of drafts or bills for the payment of the expenses of the present sassion of the Legislative Assembly, approved February 15, 1842, and now in the treasury, by cutting said certificates with a cancelling hammer or chisel.

Mr. Hicks moved to amend the resolution by striking there. from, all after the word "treasury" and inserting instead there. of, "by burning."

Which was disagreed to.

And the question was put on the passage of the said resolu. tion, and it passed in the affirmative.

committee on the part of the house under the said resolution. A message from the Council by their Secretary:

"Mr Speaker-The Council have passed bill No. 45, [H. of R.] "a bill to provide for completing a new roof upon the capitol, and for other purposes."

The Council have also passed bill No. 55, [C. F.] "a bill to organize the town of Pike Grove, in the county of Racine, and to annex certain land to the town of Southport, in said county."

Also, a "memorial to Congress, relative to the expenses of the Legislative Assembly," and ask the concurrence of the house in said bills and memorial.

Mr. Long, from the committee on enrolled bills made the following report, to wit:

The committee on enrollment report, that they did on the thirteenth day of April, eighteen hundred and forty-three present to his excellency the Governor for his approval, a bill, entitled an act to provide for laying out and opening Territorial roads."

Also a bill entitled "an act to make valid the official acts of Frederick Borcherdt, a Justice of the Peace."

Also a bill entitled "an act coucerning removals from office." Also a bill entitled "an act to provide for levying and collecting a territorial revenue."

Also a bill entitled "an act to amend an act entitled an act to change the time of holding courts in certain counties of the second judicial district, and to provide for a change of venue in criminal cases, and for other purposes."

Also a bill entitled "an act to amend the several acts relative to the town of Milwaukee."

Also resolution entitled "Joint resolution relative to the distributive share of Wisconsin, in the nett proceeds of the public lands."

The message from the Council was taken up when the under

mentioned bill and memorial were severally read the first and second times, to wit:

No. 55, "a bill to organize the town of Pike Grove in the county of Racine, and to annex certain land to the town of Southport in said County."

And "memorial to Congress relative to the expenses of the Legislative Assembly,"

On motion of Mr. Hamilton,

Mr. Long from the committee on enrolled bills, reported the following to be correctly enrolled, to wit:

"An act to amend an act, to provide for the government of the several towns in this Territory, and for the revision of Coun. ty government.

The Speaker signed the same, and it was ordered to be presented to the President of the Council, for his signature.

And then the house adjourned until half past 2 o'clock P, M.

HALF PAST TWO O'CLOCK, P. M.

A call of the house was made and the Sergeant-at-arms dirrcted to notify the absent members that their attendance in the house was required.

Several of the absent members having appeared, further proeeedings in the call were dispensed with.

Mr. Walker presented the remonstrance of inhabitants of Milwaukee county against an additional term of the Court in said county,

Which was laid on the table.

Mr. Long, from the committee on enrolled bills, reported the following to be correctly enrolled, to wit:

"An act authorizing the Governor to offer rewards for the apprehensions of criminals in certain cases," and

"An act to provide for completing a new roof upon the capi. tol, and for other purposes.'

The Speaker signed the same, and they were ordered to be presented to the President of the Council for his signature.

On motion of Mr. Platt,

The house took up resolution No. 6, [H. of R. file] "Resolu tion relative to a division of Grant county," when

A call of the house was made, and further proceedings in the call dispensed with.

A call of the House was again demanded, and on motion, fur. ther proceedings therein were dispensed with.

A motion was then made by Mr. Hamilton, that the said res olution be indefinitely postponed.

And the question being put thereon, it passed in the negative. And the ayes and noes being called for,

On motion of Mr. Platt,

The eighteenth rule of this house was suspended with reference to the said resolution, when

A call of the house was made, and

On motion of Mr. Trowbridge, further procedings in the call of the House were dispensed with.

Mr. Walker, by leave, offered the following resolution, which was adopted:

Resolved, That each member of the House of Representatives found absent on a call of the house shall forfeit to the sergeatat-arms one dollar, unless excused by two-thirds of the house. The question was then put on the passage of resolution No. 6, and it was determined in the negative.

And the ayes and noes being called for,
