The main question was then put on adopting the report of the committee, and it passed in the affirmative.

On motion of Mr. Olin,

The House took up for consideration bill No. 58 [C. F.] entitled "A bill to provide for the payment of certain territorial debts therein named."

And (on motion of Mr. Elmore) resumed its session in committee of the whole house, thereon, Mr. Elmore in the chair. Pending the report of the committee, the secretary of the

Council being announced, the Speaker resumed the chair, when the following message was received, viz:

"Mr. Speaker. The Governor of the Territory has informed the Council that he has approved and signed "an act to provide for levying and collecting a Territorial revenue;""an act to amend an act entitled an act to provide for the government of the several towns in this Territory, and for the revision of county government."-Also, "an act to organize the town of Pike, in the county of Racine, and to annex certain land to the town of Southport in said county."

The Council have passed bill No. 49 [H. of R.] "A bill concerning the time of commencing actions, and for other purpos es." with amendment, in which the concurrence of the House is asked."

The Council have adopted the report of the committee of conference on bill No. 65, [C. F.] entitled "a bill to provide for the payment of the expenses of the Legislative Assembly."

Mr. Long from the committee on enrolled bills, reported the following to be correctly enrolled, to wit:

"An act concerning the City of the Four Lakes, an act to repeal parts of certain acts therein named and for other pur. poses."

"An act to amend the act authorizing Samuel H. Farnsworth to build and maintain a dam on the Menominee River.",

"An act to amend the Statutes of this territory relative to sales of land under execution or mortgage, and to legalize certain conveyances.

"Memorial to Congress relative to the expenses of the Log. islative Assembly," and

"Memorial of the Legislative Assembly of Wisconsin, pray. ing the office of Governor of this territory may be made elec. tive by the people."

The Speaker signed the same and they were ordered to be

presented to the President of the Council for his signature. The committee of the whole house resumed their session, and after some time spent therein, rose and reported the bill to the House with amendments.

A division of the question being called, by Mr. Hamilton, on agreeing to the report of the committee, the question was taken separately on the amendments.

When the question was put on agreeing to the first amend. ment, which provides for a compensation to John Y. Smith, superintendent of territorial property, and it passed in the affirmative.

And the ayes and noes being called for,

Messrs. Crossman, Darling, Elmore, Hunkins, Long, Manahan, Masters, Meeker, Olin, Parsons, Thompson, Tripp, Van Vleet, and Walker, [Speaker]--15.

The question then recurred on agreeing to the second amendment, which provided an appropriation to Alexander Mitchell for interest on bonds on the territory surrendered to the secre tary of the territory, and being put, it passed in the affirmative. And the ayes and noes being called for,

The question was then put on agreeing to the third amend.

The question was then put on agreeing to the 4th amendment which is for inter est to Adam E. Ray, for bonds surrendered, and it passed in the affirmative.

The question being on agreeing to the fifth amendment which was for printing proclamation of sale of canal lands by Elish a Starr, it was put and passed in the negative.

And the ayes and noes being called for,

Those who voted in the negative, are

The question was then taken on the sixth amendment, which was an appropriation to LaFayette Kellogg for fees as clerk of the supreme court in the case of the canal commissioners, and it passed in the affirmative.

The question recurring on the seventh amendment, which was an appropriation to George H. Walker for services as act. ing canal commissioner, and being put it passed in the negative. And the ayes and noes being called for,

[Speaker]-6.

Those who voted in the negative, are,

The question then recurred on agreeing to the eighth amend. ment which provided an appropriation to M. M. Strong for services as attorney in certain Territorial suits.

And being put, it passed in the negative.

The ninth amendment, which provided an appropriation to Z. H. Bird, of twelve dollars for transporting arms from Fort Winnebago to Mineral Point, to be used at the execution of Caffee, was agreed to.

The tenth amendment, which provides an appropriation to George Williams for service of a subpoena in the action United States vs. James D. Doty and others of $11,25, was agreed to. And the ayes and noes being called for,

Those who voted in the affirmative are,

Messrs. Agry, Crossman, Darling, Hunkins, Manahan, Meeker, Platt, Thompson, Van Vleet, Walker and Ellis, [Speak: er--11.

The question then recurred on agreeing to the eleventh amendment, which provided a compensation to Robert D. Lester, Sheriff of Crawford County, for taking the census of said Coun ty for 1842.
