The question then recurred on concurring in the first amendment of the Council as amended, and it was unanimously concurred in.

On motion of Mr. Hamilton,

The title to the said resolutoin was amended by adding thereto the following words, "and for ether purposes," and the said amendment of the Council was then concurred in,

Ordered, That the Council be requested to concur therein, On motion of Mr. Darling,

The House took up a resolution from the Council, entitled "joint resolution relative to the adjournment of the Legislative Assembly."

Mr. Hamilton moved to amend the resolution by striking out the following words, "to meet on the sixth day of March next," Which was determined in the negative.

And the ayes and noes having been called for,
Those who voted in the affirmative, are

Messrs. Hamilton, and Platt-2.

Those who voted in the negative, are

Messrs. Crossman, Darling, Elmore, Hopkins, Hunkins, Jud. son, Long, Masters, 'Olin, Parsons, Thompson, Tripp, Trow. bridge, Walker and Ellis [Speaker.]—15.

On motion of Mr. Darling,

The resolution was amended in the last line but one, by striking out the word "to" after the word "advisable," and inserting in lieu thereof the following words, "that when we do adjourn we"

The question was then taken on the passage of the said reso. lution and determined in the affirmative,

And the ayes and noes having been called for,

Those who voted in the affirmative, are

Messrs. Darling, Hunkins, Judson, Hopkins, Olin, Parsons, Thompson, Tripp, Trowbridge, Walker and Ellis [Speaker.] -11,

Those who voted in the negative, are

Messrs. Crossman, Elmore, Hamilton, Long, Masters and Platt-6.

Ordered, That the Council be requested to concur in the amendment to said resolution.

And then the House adjourned until 9 o'clock. P. M.

NINE O'CLOCK, P. M.

A message from the Council by their Secretary:

"Mr Speaker-I am directed to inform this House that the Council have concurred in the amendment of the House of Representatives to "joint resolutions relative to the adjournment of the Legislative Assembly."

I am also directed to inform this House that the Council have concurred with the House of Representatives in the amend ments to the amendments to the "Preamble and resolution relative to andjourning the present session until the 6th day of March next."

Mr. Long, from the committee on enrolled bills, reported the following resolutions, to wit:

"Preamble and resolutions relative to the present session of the Legislative Assembly, and other purposes.

"Joint resolutions relative to the adjourment of the Legisla. tive Assembly."

The Speaker signed the said resolutions and ordered them to be presented to the President of the Council for his signature. On motion of Mr. Darling,

Ordered, That the Clerk be directed to acquaint the Council that this House is now ready to adjourn.

A message from the Council by their Secretary.

"Mr. Speaker-I am directed to inform the House of Repre sentatives that the Council is now ready to adjourn."

On motion of Mr. Hamilton, it was unanimously

Resolved, That the thanks of this House be tendered to the Hon. Albert G. Ellis, for the able and impartial manner in which he has discharged the duties of Speaker.

Mr. Ellis expressed his acknowledgement to the House in a few brief and appropriate remarks and then

On motion of Mr. Elmore,

The House adjourned until the sixth day of March next at 10 o'clock, A. M.

Monday, March 6, 1843.

The House was called to order at 10 o'clock A. M., by the Speaker, and the roll being called, the following members an swered to their names and took their seats, to wit: Messrs.' Capron, Crossman, Elmore, Hicks, Hopkins, Hunkins, Long, Masters, Meeker, Olin, Parsons, Platt, Price, Thompson, Tripp, Ellis, Judson and Trowbridge.

The journal of the 6th of February last was read

Mr. Capron presented the certificate of election of William

A. Bartlett to a seat in this House from the counties of Rock and Walworth, which was read.

Mr. Trowbridge presented the certificate of election of Peter Van Vleet to a seat in this House, from the county of Racine, and also his oath of office, taken and certified by the Clerk of the Supreme Court, which were read, and,

On motion of Mr. Elmore,

Mr. Van Vleet was admitted to take his seat, and thereupon he appeared and took his seat.

On motion of Mr. Capron,

William A. Bartlett was sworn by the Speaker and then took his seat.

On motion of Mr. Price.

William S. Anderson appeared and was duly sworn as ser. geant-at-arms of this House.

Mr. Walker, from Milwaukee, and Messrs. Agry and Darling, from the county of Brown and the counties thereto attached, appeared and took their seats.

On motion of Mr. Darling,

Ordered, That the clerk be directed to transmit a communi. cation to the Hon. Council informing that body that a quorum of members of the House of Representatives are now in session for the dispatch of business.

Mr. Meeker offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That a committee be appointed to act jointly with a committee on the part of the Council, to wait upon the Governor and inform him that quorums of the two Houses have assembled, and that they are now ready to receive any communi. cation he may be pleased to make to them.

Mr. Olin moved that the resolution do lie on the table until after 12 o'clock, M.

And the question being put it was determined in the negative. And the ayes and noes having been called for,

Those who voted in the affirmative, are

Messrs. Agry, Bartlett, Hopking, Hunkins, Judson, Olin, Thompson, Trowbridge, and Van Vleet-9.

Those who voted in the negative, are

Messrs. Crossman, Darling, Elmore, Hicks, Long, Masters, Meeker, Parsons, Platt, Price, Tripp, Walker and Ellis, (Speaker)-13.

Mr. Persons moved a call of the House, which was made and a quorum being present,

On motion of Mr. Darling, further proceedings in the call were dispensed with.

A message from the Council by their Secretary:

"Mr. Speaker-I have been directed by the Council to inform the House of Representatives that a quorum of the Coun. cil is now present and ready to proceed to business."

Mr. Hunkins noved to adjourn until after 12 o'clock, M. which was disagreed to, and a division being called, there were ayes 10, noes 10.

Mr. Hopkins moved that the resolution be amended by insert. ing after the word "governor," the words "one o'clock, P. M." Mr. Hamilton, from the county of Iowa, appeared and took his seat.

Mr. Hopkins by leave withdrew the amendment offered by him, and renewed the motion" to adjourn until 12 o'clock, M." And the question being taken it was determined in the negative.

And the ayes and noes being called for,

Those who voted in the affirmative, are

Messrs. Agry, Bartlett, Hamilton, Hopkins, Judson, Olin,

Price, Thompson and Van Vleet-10.

Those who voted in the negative, are
