1 How bless'd is he who ne'er consents
By ill advice to walk;

Nor stands in sinner's ways, nor sits
Where men profanely talk.

2 But makes the perfect law of God
His business and delight;
Devoutly reads therein by day,
And meditates by night.

3 Like some fair tree, which, fed by streams With timely fruit does bend,

So shall he flourish; and success

All his designs attend.

4 For God approves the just man's ways,
To happiness they lead:

But sinners, and the paths they tread,
To ruin are decreed.

PSALM II.

1 THO' sinners boldly join,
Against the Lord to rise;
Against His Christ combine,
Th' Anointed to despise;
From heav'n shall God
Their wrath deride,
And bow their pride
Beneath his rod.

2 Jesus the Saviour reigns:
On Zion is his throne:
Jehovah's pow'r sustains
His own begotten Son;
Up from the grave
He bids him rise;
And mount the skies,
With pow'r to save.

3 Oh! serve the Lord with fear,
And rev'rence his command;
With sacred joy draw near,
With solemn trembling stand;
Before his throne

Your homage bear,
His pow'r declare,
And bless the Son.

PSALM IV.

1 HEAR when I call, thou God most just;
My God, thy righteousness I trust:
Oft has thy grace relieved my care;
Again let mercy hear my pray❜r.

2 Let all the world assured know
The Lord regards his saints below;
He marks the men who fear his name,
And bids their faith his promise claim.
3 Before him stand with holy awe;
Depart from sin; observe his law;
E'er on your bed you seek repose,
To him your inmost thoughts disclose.
4 Thus let your pray'r and praise arise,
Thro' Christ th' accepted sacrifice;
And while you own him as your Lord,
Obey his will, and trust his word.

PSALM IV. SECOND VERSION 1 In vain the thoughtless world enquires, Forgetful of their God,

Who will supply their vain desires,
Or shew them earthly good.

2 Through the wide compass of the earth
Their restless wishes rove,

In search of honor, wealth, and mirth,
The idols of their love.

3 But oft these shadowy joys elude
Their most intense pursuit;

Or, if they seize the fancied good,
There's poison in the fruit.

4 From this vain world, Lord, wean our love;
Set our affections right:
May we by faith seek joys above,
And walk no more by sight.

PSALM V.

1 Lord, in the morning thou shalt hear
My voice ascending high;
To thee will I direct my prayer,
To thee lift up mine eye.

2 Oft to thy house will I resort,
To taste thy mercies there;
I will frequent thy holy court,
And worship in thy fear.

3 From vanity, Oh! turn mine eyes;
Let no corrupt design,

Nor any selfish wish arise

Within this soul of mine.

4 0 may thy Spirit guide my feet
In ways of truth and grace;
Make ev'ry path of duty straight,
And plain before my face.

5 All they who love and fear thy name,
Shall see their hopes fulfill'd;

The mighty God shall compass them
With favor as a shield.
