exhorted to watcb and pray always, that we may accounted worthy to escape all these things that fhall come to pafs, and to ftand before the Son of Man. But upon what account shall we be accounted worthy? For our Watching and Praying? No verily, but upon the Account, and for the Sake of Chrift's Worthinefs, which is imputed, made over, and accounted, by an Act of Free Grace, as our Purity, or as our Righteoufnefs: Yet it is ourDuty both to watch and pray. This doth fhew then that here fhall be fome accounted worthy to partake of the Glory of that World to come.

2ly, Who are they that shall be accounted worthy? Such as the Lord will count worthy are those who have believed in Chrift, all that are interefted by Faith in the Perfon, Blood, and Righteousness of Jefus Chrift; all the Saints, all the Children of God, all they fhall be accounted worthy, as having part in the First Refurrection, Rev, xx. 6. Bleffed and holy is be that hath a part in the First Refurrection: On fuch the Second Death hath no Power; but they fhall be Priefs of God and of Chrift, ard fhall reign with him a thousand Years Thefe are they that shall be accounted worthy to obtain that World, and the Refurrection from the Dead.

Thirdly, What is meant by that World? Our Lord does not mean this prefent World in which we live, because it is diftinguished from it, being called that World: It cannot be this World (that is) in its finful, forrowful, and afflicted State; which the best of the Saints have fo great an Experience of, and which that World will be altogether free from, the Saints then being perfect, finlefs, immortal, and incorruptible. Otherwife, in refpe&t T

of

of Place, it will be in this World, when changed, as it will be at that time, Heb. i. 1c. but not in this finful corruptible Condition as it is now in; and therefore diftinguished from it.

Neither can it be referred to the State of the Saints in Heaven after the Laft Judgment, in which Senfe too many (without a due Confideration) are ready to take it: Which will appear very plain, if we compare this World here fpoken of, with that in Heb. ii. 5. which is the very fame. For unto the Angels hath he not put into subjection the World to come, whereof we speak. This World to come is not put in fubjection unto the Angels. To whom then? Why unto Jefus Chrift: As it is in the 8th Verfe, Thou haft put all things in fubjection under his Feet; that is, God the Father hath put all things in fubje&ion under Chrift; for in that he put all things in fubjection under him (by CovenantGrant) be left nothing that is not put under him. Tho' now we fee not yet all things put under him, this World to come then is put (among all other things) in fubje&tion unto Chrift. By this World to come, cannot be understood the Ultimate Glory, because that is not to be put in fubjection under Chrift at that time; tho' all things are faid to be put under him asMediator, and therefore he must and will reign, until he hath put all Enemies under his Feet: Yet when he faith all things are put under him, it is manifeft that he is excepted which did put all things under him. And when all things fhall be fubdued unto him (as they will be in their due Order and Time (then it is that Chrift will deliver up the Kingdom unto the Father. But when is it that he will deliver up this Kingdom? Not until the End of

the

the Laft Judgment. Then the End, v. 24. So I underftand it is read: The Word cometh not being in the Original, is put into the Text in smaller Characters; but the Senfe feems to be fuller without it. Then the End. Then! When? When he fhall deliver up the Kingdom to God, even the Father: When he fhall have put down all Rule, all Authority and Power. So that the End of Chrift's Kingdom will not be until the last Act is performed by Chrift, in delivering up the Kingdom. Then in deed, but not till then, will he put down all Rule, Authority, and Fower: And therefore until then it is moft certain Chrift must reign, as in Verfe 25. For be muft reign till he hath put all Enemies under his Feet: Not as he reigns in his providential Kingdom, by upholding and governing of the World, nor yet as he reigns by his Spirit in the Hearts of the Saints, are we to underftand it; for fo he always reigned ever fince he had a People upon the Earth: But Chrift muft reign in a glorious, vifible and perfonal manner, in his Kingdom according to what the Spirit of God hath af ferted in many Scripture Promifes and Prophefies, he muft reign with his People in that World call'd the World to come; which by the Father is put into fubjection under Chrift. Now then when the Lord Jefus, as God Man Mediator, hath reigned, and all things are fubdued unto him; and the laft Enemy (which is Death) is deftroyed: Which will not be until Death and Hell (the direful Effects of Sin) are caft into the Lake that burns with Fire and Brimfone, after the Laft Judgment is over: Then will he deliver up the Kingdom to the Father: Then fhall the Son alfo himself be fubject (as Man)

that did put all things under him, that God may be all in all, 1 Cor. xv. 24, 25. Well then! If these things be but confidered, it will evidently appear, that the Kingdom of Eternal Glory cannot be that World to come whereof we fpeak, because, as has been fhewn, that is not then fubjected unto Chrift, but he himself as Man will be a Subject in that Kingdom.

Secondly, and affirmatively, By that World which our Lord fpeaketh of, or as it is called in the Second Chapter of the Hebrews, The World to come, which is to be put in fubjection unto Chrift, and in which he is to reign with his Saints, can be no other than a perfect perfonal Reign and Kingdom of Chrift, in the Glory of the Thousand Tears. Which I have been, and fhall give further proof (when I come to speak of this by it felf) will be upon this Earth, or in this World, after it is refined and purged by the Fire of the Laft Day. It cannot be this World in its prefent State and Condition; and therefore called the World to come: Neither is it a State in the Eternal Heavens, as appears from the Reasons aforegiven: Then it must be a World betwixt these two, a World that will begin at the time of Chrift's perfonal Appearance, when he fhall come (and all the Saints with him) from Heaven, with Power and great Glory: Which will continue throughout the Thousand Tears Reign, and will not have an end until the Period of the Laft Judgment, when he shall deliver up the Kingdom to God, even the Father. And if fo, then certainly this must be the fame World expreffed in Luke, that World, to fhew that it is not this. Befides, that World is not to commence or appear visible, until

the Refurrection and Glorification of the Saints: Which we fee is the fame with the World to come, fubjected (as before) only to Jefus Chrift and all those who are in union with him. Oh what a World will this appear to be in that Day when the Lord fhall be King over all the Earth. Sure this can be no less than the New Heaven and the New Earth wherein dwelleth Righteoufnefs: And therefore none but Righteous Perfons fhall dwell therein. No Sin fhall enter into this glorious City: Nothing that worketh Abomination or maketh a Lie, Only those whofe Names are written in the Lamb's Book of Life, fhall be accounted worthy to obtainthat World, or to participate of the Glory of this World to come, Ifa. lxv. 17. 2 Pet. iii. 13. Rev. xxi. 27. Oh happy then, yea for ever happy are they, who fhall be counted worthy, thro' the Worthiness of Chrift, to obtain that World, that new World, wherein all things fhall be made new, And be that fat upon the Throne faid unto me, Behold I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write; for thefe Words are true and faithful. Thus we fee all things are to be made new in this World to come; New Heavens, a New Earth, New Habitations, and New Inhabitants: Not in refpect of the Subftance but in refpect of the Change that will be upon them. Oh what a glorious Change will there be in that Day, upon the Heavens, upon the Earth, upon the Saints, and upon all things that the Saints fhall be converfant about. In this State it is that the Saints fhall be equal to the Angels; which will be a perfect Sinless State, openly, vifibly, and gloriously appearing to be the Children of God, being the Children of the Firft Refurrection: And
