therefore Partakers of the Glory of that World, or the World, to come •, which, as has been shewn, will be subjected unto Christ and the Saints, in the Glory of this vijible Kingdom: Which Texts of Scripture cannot fairly be apply'd unto any other State or Time. - xm'.

Again in Matth. xx.and the 20, 21, 22. weread how the Mother of Zebedees Children came with her two Sons unt0 Christ, xvarstipphgof him, and defir'd a certain thing of him. And he said what wilt thou? Shefaith.unto htm, Grant that these my tiro Sons may fit, the one at thy Right Hand, and the other at thy Left, in thy Kingdom. This was her Request to Christ for her Children. But Jesus answered and said, Te know not what ye &k. Are ye able to drink of the Cup that I stall drink of, or to be baptized with the Baptism that lam baptized with? As if our Lord should lay-, Tou are looking at tfoe Glory, and dejire to be wade great in it; but do not so well confider the Sufferings that I am, and tVat ye are to go through first. Therefore consider whether ye are able to drink of my Cup, and to be baptized with my Baptism ? They said unto him, We are able. They said, that is, the Sons of Zebedee make answer now (having set their Mother on to ask, as being ashamed to begin first) We are able. In the 23d Verse. And he said unto them, Te stall drink indeed os my Cup,' and be baptized with my Baptism; but to fit on my Right Hand and on viyLest, is not mine to give •, hut it stall be given to them for whom it is prepared of %f Father. The main thing to be opened in these Words is, What Kingdom these Sons of Zebedee meant, which they desired so much to be advanced in j the Spiritual Kingdom of Grace under the

Gospel, or the Church of God, whilst in its Militant State, cannot be that Kingdom •, because there is no such Distribution of Rewards •, nor Places of Honour or Glory to be bestowed upon the Saints, whilst flie is in her Militant Conflict: and Suffering Condition; but when her Conflicts and Sufferings are over. Nor yet the Kingdom of Glory in the eternal Heavens. And why? Because that is not so properly calledG>nf/?'s Kingdom, tho' he hath the same Interest in it with his Father, as God •, but as Man he hat h not: For he himself as Man will be a Subject in that Kingdom: And therefore 'tis not said to be his, under this Consideration. But the Kingdom in this place is call'd Christ's Kingdom, to distinguish it from the Ultimate Glory, that they may Jit, the one on thy Right Hani, the other on thy Left Hand, in thy Kingdom. This is Christ's Kingdom then distinct from the Kingdom in Heaven: Besides we cannot think that any of the Saints stall Jit at the Right Hand of God, in the Kingdom of Heaven \ which Place is proper to Christ only, as God, Man, Mediator-, a Dignity'not to be bestowed upon Angels: For unto which of the Angels said he at any time, Sit thou at my Right Hand? Heb. i.

Well then! The Kingdom that they meant, and in which Sense Christ understood them (for he knew the Meaning of their Hearts as well as their Words) was the Yifible Glory of Christ's Kingdom, in this World, or upon this Earth. But it may be objected by some, If this be the Kingdom that they meant, and in which Sense Christ understood them, host' ioes it appear that there stall he such a Kingdom? Christ star ply rebukes and tells them that

^ th£y they knew not what they asked. This sharp Reprehension need not fright any Person from beholding the Glory of Christ s Kingdom held forth to us in these Words, if they are not willing to be frighted. For if we do but take notice of Christ's Answer, we may be satisfy'd as to the Truth of this Kingdom, if any thing in reason will satisfy.

And therefore look into Verse 23. And he said vnto ihem, Testall inde ed drink of my Cup, and he baptized with the Baptism that I am baptized with: But to Jit on my Right Hand, is not mine to give : But it stall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father. These Words I shall open thus, if the Sons of Zebedee, with their Mother, did mean a Visible Glory of Christ's Kingdom upon Earth 5 in which Distribution of Rewards should be given, and Places of Honours and Dignities should be bestow'dj and Christ understood them in the same Sense, as has been proved 5 then nothing can appear more plain for the Proof of the Point in hand, but that there will be such a Time upon Earth, in which some will be preferred on the Right, and some cw the Left Hard of Christ, in his Kingdom. 1 his is so far from being'deny'd by our Lord Jesus, as that he does positively affirm it in these Words, that tho' it be not his to give (simply consider'd as Man) yet it shall be given to them for whom it was prepared: As if our Lord should fay, "There is indeed such a Kingdom to be, in which Rewards,Honoui s, and Dignities shall be bestowed upon them for whom it is prepared or appointed by my Fa! her. That which our Lord reproves them for, is only their Ambition to be above their Brethren. They would fain have had the preheminence above 0

r thers there j but Christ reproves them for that, in telling them they asked they knew not what, or they were not well sensible what a Day of Suffering and Affliction there would be upon the Church and People of God first; and therefore the Time was unseasonable to ask for such Preferments. They were not well sensible for what End, or upon what Ground they asked such things, nor yet that it was in Christ's Dispose. This is the Reason of Christ's Reproof but withal he satisfies them, that these great things which they asked for, fliould be given at the Time appointed, by the Father, for whom it was prepared.

Chap. XII. The Disciples were in expectation that the Kingdom, orRegal Power(which they had lost) should now be restored t.o Israel.

I. This Kingdom cannot be understood of a Dispensation m.der the Gospel; neither can it be meant of a Kingdom in the Eternal Heaven. 2. This Kingdom then must be a Visible, Personal, Reign and Kingdom of Christ in this World. 3. This Kingdom will be as real upon the Earth, as any of the Kingdoms e/ifrael were. $.The Apostle greatly destr'd that the Time of the Corinthians Reigning were come, that we and all the Saints might reign with them.

Gain those Words in the First of the A8s, Verse 6,7, are of great Weight and of the same Import: When they therefcre were come together, they asked him, faying, Lord wilt thou at this time re Bare again the Kingdom to Israel. And he said wto them, It is not for you to know the Times or Seasons which the Father hath put inhis own Power.
