had given fo large an Account of the Divifion of the Land, the Portions of all the Tribes, the Inheritance of the Frinces, the Measuring of the Temple, appointing the Worship and Ordinance of God, defcribing the Waters of the Sanctuary, from the Ancles to the Knées, from the Knees to the Loins, until it became a River to fwim in, a River that could not be paffel over. All which has a fpiritual relation unto this glorious Time which I am now fpeaking of; as would more fully appear, was we take notice of the many Particulars in it; but that would fwell this little Piece into too Great a Volume: Therefore I fhall come to the Confideration of this Laft Verfe; And it was round about Eighteen Thoufard Meafures, that is four times four thoufand, five hundred. The City we read of in the 21ft of the Revelations, is faid to be Twelve Thoufand Furlongs; which, according to the Account that fome give us, is Four Thousand Five Hundred Miles. A Large Place for a City.

And the Name of the City (by which New Jerufalem, the Holy City coming down from God, out of Heaven, is fhadowed out) from that Day fhall be, The Lord is there. From that Day! From what Day? Why, from the Day (as I humbly conceive, according to the Spirituality of thefe Words, or what the Spirit principally intends in them) when the Jews fhall be called by the Power of the Spirit of God; when converting Grace fhall lay hold on their Hearts; when they fhall be brought out of Call Parts of the World, where they have been driven, into the Poffeffion of their own Land; from that Day it is the City fall be called, The Lord is there. This feems to be prefigur'd out from the

Gates of the City, which were to take their Denomination from the Names of the Twelve Tribes, fo placed, that Perfons related to every Tribe, might come, whether they lie Eaft, Weft, North, or South; as it is in the Antitype, Rev. xxi. ver. 13. On the Eaft 3 Gates, on the North 2 Gates, on the South 3 Gates, and on the Weft 3 Gates. These Gates answering to the Four Quarters of the World, and 3 Gates placed in every Quarter, muft certainly denote the great Flocking that there will be in that Day, from all Farts and Places. 2dly, It denotes the free Reception and Admittance of all thofe that are free Citizens of the New Jerufalem; for thefe Gates are not to be shut at all by day; and there fhall be no Night there, Rev. xxi. 25.

Well! From that Day, when not only the Converted Jews, but the Converted Gentiles too, fall flock in, out of all Nations, Kindred, Tongues, and People, Rev. vii 9. From that Day, when the Spirit hall be poured down upon all Flefb, Joel iii. And An tichrift destroy'd with the Breath of his Mouth, and the Brightness of his Coming. From that Day, when the Deliverance of God's People, both Soul and Body, fhall be compleated. From that Day, when the Lord Jefus Chrift hall take upon him his great Power and Reign, and fhall be King over all the Earth. From that Day called the Reflitution of all things, when the Knowledge of the Glory of the Lord fhall cover the Earth, as the Waters cover the Sea. From that Day, when the Kingdoms of this World fall visibly become the Kingdoms of our Lord and bis Chrift, who fhall reign for ever and ever, Rev. xi. 15. From that Day, when the Lord will turn to his People a Pure Language

Language, that they may call upon the Name of the Lord, and ferve him with one Confent, Zeph. iii. 9. Frem that Day, when Zion fhall be made an Eternal Excellency, a Joy of many Generations. From that Day, whan Jerufalem, the Church of God, shall be made the Praife or a Glory in the Earth, Ifa lx. 15. and Ixii. 7. From that Day when all the Latter Day Promifes and Prophefies of Zion's Glory fhall be accom plifhed. From that Day when all Idols fhall be utterly abolished, and the Lord alone exalted, Ifa. ii. From that great and notable Day it is, that the Name of the City fall be, The Lord is there.

By thisCity,as before noted,I understand to be the fame defcribed,Revelations xxi. New Jerufalem com ing down from God out of Heaven; by which the Spouse of Chrift is fignified. Verfe 9, 10. Come ир bither (faith the Angel to John) and I will fhew thee the Bride, the Lamb's Wife. And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great high Mountain, and fhewed me that great City, the Holy Jerufalem, def cending out of Heaven from God, having the Glory of God, and her Light was like unto aStone most precious, even like a Fafpar Stone, clear as Chryftal: Which refpects the Glory that will then be put upon her, and that tranfparent Light, clear as Chryftal, that will fhine forth from her.

This glorious City, the Church of God, confifting both of Jews and Gentiles, as she shall appear in that Day, is fet forth in her Glory, Beauty, and Excellency, by many Particulars :

First, From her Relation which fhe hath to the King of Glory, or the relation that he ftandeth in unto her; he being her Bridegroom; fhe being his Wife, Bride, and Spoufe. This muft put an unSpeakable Glory upon her. 2dly,

2dly, From the Place from which fhe is faid to defcend; and that is from God out of Heaven, prepar'd and adorn'd, as a Bride for the Marriage-Day; having on her beautiful Garments, not only the Robe of Chrift's Righteoufnefs; but the Robes of Glory, or the Garments of Immortality: Not leaving God or Heaven behind her, but the Glory of God and Heaven, defcending, as it were, along with her: And therefore at this time the Tabernacle God is faid to be with Men; and he will dwell with them.

3dly, The Glory and Excellency of this City is further fet forth by her Walls, which are great and high. This is no less than Salvation it felf. Salva-s tion hath the Lord appointed for Walls aod Bulwarks. This great and high Wall is not only for the Safety but for the Glory and Honour of the City.

4thly, Her Gates, which are twelve, having the Names of the 12 Tribes written thereon; to fhew I conceive the Right of Interest which they have unto all the Priviledges of this City. And at the Gates Twelve Angels, which continually keep guard, fo as no Danger can attack them: And at thefe Gates Twelve Pearls, every feveral Gate was of one Pearl. Pearls are valuable things among Men; but how valuable muft thefe Pearls be, which Godhimfelf hath provided to beautify and adorn the Gates of the City withal.

5thly, The Length and Breadth of the City fets forth fomething of the Glory thereof: It is faid to lie four-fquare; and the Length is as large as the Breadth the Length, and the Breadth, and the Heighth of it, are equal: By which I understand the unfeigned hearty Love, harmonious Agree?

ment,

ment, and perfect Unity, there will be in the Saints unto Chrift (his Laws, Rules, Ordinances, and Government) and to one another, is fignified; a perfect Conformity to Chrift, and an Uniformity among themselves: There will be then no Diffe rences about Forms, as now; but a hearty and Soul Agreement in all the Children of God, as to that Form of Government that they then shall be under.

6thly, The Materials of the Wall are faid to be of Fafpar, a precious Stone of a Green Colour, with fome Red Veins in it, and of an excellent Nature. From whence we may obferve if the Buildings of the Walls, and outward Materials of the City, be fo glorious; how much more glorious muft the City and inward Furniture thereof be? Tea, the City is of pure Gold, like unto clear Glass: Such Gold as this World never could afford, for the Brightness, Excellency and Duration of it. The Gold that this City is built with, is fo bright, as that the Saints will fee the comfortable Face of God continually fhine upon them, thro' it, or thro' the Bleffed Mediator, for ever: They fhall fee into the deep things of God, yea all the Myfteries of the Kingdom.

7thly, The Foundations of the Walls of the City were garnished with all manner of Precious Stones ; and these are diftinguished into Twelve Sorts, each one of a precious excellent Nature; which are the Twelve Foundations of the Wall, to fhew how ftrong, fafe, and fecure this City is: And in them them the Names of the Twelve Apoftles; not only to fignifie the Intereft and Property they had in the Priviledges of this glorious City; but all theSaints that have believed, and received Chrift; and laid
