Thirdly, The Place where this Kingdom is to be Let up; and that is in this World, upon this Earth, which will appear very plain alfo, if we confider that the foregoing Monarchies were in this World, which must be deftroyed, and become as the Chaff of the Summer threshing Floor, to give Way and Place for this Kingdom.

.

Fourthly, To put the Matter out of all Doubt, that this must be understood principally of Chrift's perfonal Coming and Reign; we may look into the 34th and 35th Verfes, where we have the Interpretation of this Part of the Dream, that the Stone cut out without Hands fmote the Image, and break it in Pieces. Now by this Stone can be no other than the Lord Jefus Chrift, who in Refpect of his human Nature, (according to the Similitude) may be faid to be cut out without Hands in his miraculous Conception, it was without any human Power.

Well then, let us but confider, that after the Stone had fmote the Image, the Iron, the Clay, the Brafs, the Silver, and the Gold; then they became as the Chaff of the Summer threshing Floor, and the Wind carried them away, fo that no Place was found for them; then it is, and not 'till then, that thofe Monarchies fhall go wholly off the Stage, and this Stone become a great Mountain to fill the whole Earth. By Mountains fometimes is meant earthly Kingdoms and Monarchies, according to thofe Words in Pfalm xlvi. v. 3. Though the Mountain Jhake with the Swelling thereof, Selab. This is further explained in the 6th Verfe, The Heather raged, the Kingdoms were moved. And if fo, then by this Stone becoming a great Mountain, muft without doubt fignify the Greatnefs, the Glory,

final Deftruction. This I look upon to be the firft Part or Branch of the Kingdom of Chrift, (before his perfonal Coming) and will begin to have its Appearance (with Refpect to its fpiritual Glory) before the laft of thofe Monarchies are wholly extirpated, and therefore may be faid to be fet up in the Days, or begin to be fet up in the Days of thofe Kings.

That this must be the Meaning of the Words, is very plain (to me) from the great and wonderful Effects this Kingdom will have when once fet up; and that is the utter Ruin and Deftruction of the preceding Monarchy, for it fhall break in Pieces and confume all thefe Kingdoms, and it fhall ftand for ever; that is, it fhall never be deftroyed, nor left to be fucceeded by any other.

But for the Readers better understanding that Chrift will have a glorious Kingdom in this World, and is held forth to us in this Text, I fhall briefly lay down these following Particulars:

Firft, That here is a blessed Kingdom to be fet up, which for the Glory and Greatnefs thereof, will appear vifible on the Earth, as we fee plainly expreffed in thefe Words; And in the Days of thofe Kings, fhall the God of Heaven fet up a Kingdom which shall never be deftroyed, or left to another People, &c.

Secondly, The Perfon who is to fet up this Kingdom, and that is the God of Heaven, or God in the Mediator, the Lord Jefus Chrift. Firft, (as before obferv'd) in the great and wonderful Effufion of his Spirit. Secondly, By his Perfonal Coming.

Thirdly,

Thirdly, The Place where this Kingdom is to be fet up; and that is in this World, upon this Earth, which will appear very plain alfo, if we confider that the foregoing Monarchies were in this World, which must be destroyed, and become as the Chaff of the Summer threshing Floor, to give Way and Place for this Kingdom.

By Mountains fometimes is meant earthly Kingdoms and Monarchies, according to thofe Words in Pfalm xlvi. v. 3., Though the Mountain Jhake with the Swelling thereof, Selab. and Magnificency of Chrift's Kingdom; which will be, not in one Corner of the World, but over all the Earth; as it is very full in that Expreffion, and filled the whole Earth. To this agrees thofe Words in Ifaiab xxv. v. 6. And in this Mountain shall the Lord of Hoft make unto all People a Feaft of fat Things, of Wines on the Lees well refined, &c. This Mountain can be understood of nothing lefs than the visible Glory of the Kingdom of Chrift in this World, as that whole Chapter does fufficiently demonftrate.

Again, here we may take Notice of a plain Diftinction between the two Parts and Branches of Chrift's Kingdom: The firft Part is when this Stone fhall fmite the Image, and the Lord in an extraordinary Manner fpirit his People to fall upon Babylon, fo as that they fhall utterly deftroy her ; which must be before the Stone becomes a great Mountain, to fill the whole Earth.

The fecond Part is, when the Stone hath done fmiting the four Monarchies, carrying them wholly off the Stage, that they may appear no more in this World; then it is that the Stone will become a great Mountain, and fill the whole Earth; which can mean no other than the perfonal Reign and Kingdom of Chrift in the Glory of the thoufand Years.

Well! Thus we fee, with Refpect unto the Nature of this Kingdom, which is to be fet up, that it will be both fpiritual and perfonal, vifible and glorious. The four Monarchies were not more real and vifible in their particular Times and Seafons fucceffively after each other, than Chrift's Kingdom will be real and vifible in his Time: But the Greatness

Greatness and the Glory of this, will ten thousand Times exceed the Glory of all thofe that went before it, in Respect of the Nature, Greatnefs, Large nefs, Glory and Duration of it.

Fifthly, The manner how this Kingdom will begin in its firft fetting up; and that is by the Spirit of God coming down upon his People, (as before hinted) fitting of them for that Work which the Lord will then call them to, in fmiting of the Image upon his Feet, that were of Iron and Clay, breaking of them to Pieces; which points out the laft of the four Monarchies, upon whom the fatal Blow will be given by Jefus Chriß, this Stone cut out without Hands, and the Saints, or that Army of the Called, Chosen, and Faithful, who are faid to follow him upon white Horfes. For this Stone I look upon to prefigure not only Chrift in his Ferfon, but Chrift in his Members, which are his Body myftical. They may be faid (under fome Confideration) to be cut out of this Mountain, or the Womb of eternal electing Love, without Hands; that is, without any human Wifdom or Power; and therefore they fhall fmite the Image alfo, they being his Battel-Ax, and Weapons of War; Fer. li. v. 20. 22. Thou art my Battel-Ax and Weapons of War; for with thee (faith the Lord) will I break in Pieces the Nations, and with thee will I defroy Kingdoms; and with thee will I break in Pieces the Horfe and his Rider, and with thee will I break in Pieces the Chariot and his Rider; and fo on. To this agree many other Texts of Scripture, which I fhall not now turn to. This Kingdom of the Stone, in the firft Branch thereof, was typed out, (as Tillinghaft obferves) by the Kingdom of David, which
