SEC. 7. That the thirty-fourth section of an act entitled " act to authorize the location of certain territorial roads therein mentioned," approved February 22d, 1845, is hereby revised, and the commissioners thereby appointed are hereby vested with the same powers from and after the passage of this act as they were vested with by said act.

SEC. 8. That James Campbell, Alanson B. Vaughn and John Cook, be, and hereby are appointed commissioners to lay out a territorial road from Jefferson, in Jefferson county, by way of Punkirk, in Dane county, and Cook's mills, on section six, town four, range eleven east, to Campbell's bridge, on Sugar river, in Green county.

SEC. 9. That Charles Higgins, Jesse G. Southwell and C. B. Caunder, be, and are hereby appointed commissioners and author. ized to lay out a territorial road, commencing at a suitable point on the United States road leading from Washington harbor to De kora, and from such starting point to run in a north-westerly direction to and through the village plat of West Bend, in the county of Washington, and thence in a westerly direction to intersect said Washington and Dekora road at the most suitable point west of said yillage plat.

SEC. 10. That James D. Doty, Solomon Davis and Charles Gregnon, be, and they are hereby appointed commissioners, to lay out a territorial road from Duck Creek settlement, in Brown county, to the outlet of Winnebago Lake, ic Winnebago county, by such direct route as they shall find to be most feasible.

SEC. 11. The territorial road from Milwaukee to Beloit is hereby altered so as to intersect the town line road between the towns of Muskego and New-Berlin, near the house of Edward Reynolds, in the town of Muskego, and to run thence cast on said town line road until it intersects the aforesaid territorial road, and said territorial road is hereby altered at the place where it crosses the east and west quarter section line of section two, in the town of Greenfield, and so much of said road as lays between said quarter section line and Rogers' brick yard, is hereby vacated and in place thereof

the following road is established, beginning where the said road crosses the east and west quarter section line to a place near Charles H. Larkins' house, thence in a north-easterly direction to intersect the Kilbourn road, near the Dugway, thence on said road to Rogers' brick yard, so called; and Edward Reynolds, Luther Parker and William S. Trowbridge, be, and hereby are appointed com missioners to lay out said road.

SEC. 12. That there shall be laid out and established a territorial road from Beloit, in the county of Rock, to White Oak Springs, in the county of lowa, and that Daniel Baxter, John Hacket [and] Lucius G.Fisher, be, and they are hereby appointed commissioners to lay out and establish the said road.

SEC. 13. That John Haney, John Combe, Esau Johnson, are hereby appointed commissioners to lay out and establish a territorial road from the Combe settlement, in the county of Richland, on the most eligible route to the road now leading from Prairie du Chien to Black river, at or near the Kickapoo copper mines.

SEC. 14. That a territorial road shall be laid out and established from Jefferson to Madison, and Joseph Keyes, George Hyer and Enoch G. Darling, be, and they are hereby appointed commissioners to lay out the same.

SEC. 15. None of the expenses for laying out, surveying, opening or making any of the roads provided for in this act, or for damages arising from the laying out or opening of the same, shall be paid out of any town or county treasury, or out of the territorial treasury.

SEC. 16. It may be lawful for viewers appointed to lay out roads, and for commissioners of highways to dispense with the survey of roads when laid out upon section lines,

AN ACT to provide for the laying out of the Territorial roads therein mentioned.

BE IT ENACTED by the Council and House of Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin:

SECTION 1.

[That] Alvin Foster, Caleb Northup and Richard F. Rising be and they are hereby appointed commissioners to lay out a territorial road from Watertown, Jefferson county, by Hustis' Rapids, on Rozk river, thence to Foster's and May's mills, situated on the east branch of said river; thence to Fond du Lac, in Fond du Lac county.

SEC. 2. That there shall be laid out and established a territorial road from Burlington, Racine county, on the nearest practicable route, to Janesville, in Rock county, and that Nelson R. Norton, George Folsom, and John J. R. Pease be and they are hereby appointed commissioners to lay out and establish the same.

SEC. 3. That a territorial road shall be laid out and established from Decorra, in Portage county, to Beaver Dam, in Dodge county, and that John Q. Adams, Albert Dickinson and John Boutwell be and they are hereby appointed commissioners to lay out the same.

SEC. 4. [Tha] James B. Miller, John Langdon and Henry Pellet be and they are hereby appointed commissioners to lay out a territorial road commencing at town nine, (9) section thirteen, (13) range twelve (12) in Portage county; thence the nearest and best route to Lake Puckawa, in Marquette county.

SEC. 5. That George W. Hecox, John Messersmith and John Lindsey be appointed to lay out a territorial road beginning at the forks of the Madison and military road in Dane county, thence to E. Brigham's at Blue Mounds, hence to John Messersmith's and to the east end of Mr. Handy's fence, thence on the south side of said fence, with said fence, through the lane of John Lindsey and Charles Hope, thence to Wingville in Grant county.-The commissioners appointed by this act, shall lay out said road as near as the case will adinit of, on the highlands between the

waters of Sugar, Pecatonica and Wisconsin rivers, following section lines as near as may be.

SEC. 6. That Alvin Foster, David Lewis, and John Bannister be and they are hereby appointed commissioners to lay out a territorial road from Hustis' Ford, in Dodge county, by the 'way of May & Foster's Mill to Fond du Lac,

SEC. 7. That Garret Velit, James Weaver and John Hustis be and they are hereby appointed to lay out a territorial road from Milwaukee by way of Hustis' Ford,to the Fox Lake and Watertown road, at or near Major Pratt's.

SEC. 8. That Anson Dart, Sylvester Corbin and Henry C. Jewell, be and they are hereby appointed commissioners to lay out a territorial road from Columbus, in Portage county, to Green Lake, in Marquette county.

SEC. 9. That Henry H. Conklin, Samuel B. Ormsbee and 4dam Smith be and they are hereby appointed commissioners to lay out a territorial road leading from Sheboygan by Hustis' Ford, to Madison, in Dane county.

SEC. 10. That S. Wade, A. C. Blodgett and George White, be and they are hereby appointed commissioners to lay out and establish a road leading from the military road at or near Calumet Village, in Fond du Lac county, to the Sheboygan and Fond du Lac road, on the most practicable route which in the judgment of the commissioners can be found.

SEC. 11. That Charles Temple, Benjamin Dey,and Jacob Low are hereby appointed commissioners to lay out a territorial road from Fort Winnebago, on the north side of Swan Lake, on the best route to intersect the old road between Fort Winnebago and Madison, at such point as the commissioners aforesaid shall adjudge best.

SEC. 12. That Jesse Smith, William Phoenix, and Caleb Croswell be and they are hereby appointed commissioners to lay out and establish a territorial road from East Troy, in the county of Walworth, on the best and most practicable route to Elk Horn.

SEC. 13. That Sylvester Corbin, John Walker, and L. H. Allen, be appointed commissioners to lay out a territorial road and make such alterations in a certain territorial road now already laid out, as to their judgment may appear necessary for the public utility. Said alteration to commence at the village of Columbus, in Por

tage county, thence to the village of Waterloo, in Jefferson county.

SEC. 14. That John Nutter, Nathan Hibbard and Curtis Bellows be and they are hereby appointed commissioners to lay out a territorial road from Elk Horn in Walworth county,tlience through Sugar Creek Prairie and Heart Prairie, to Palmyra, in Jefferson county, thence to the house of John Nutter, in the town of Sullivan, thence to Hustis' Ford, on Rock River, in Dodge county.

SEC. 15. That Benjamin Hawkins, John Hodgson and Almon Grey be appointed commissioners to lay out a territorial road from Milwaukee to Fort Atkinson; to make certain alterations in said road as they may deem necessary, the said alterations to commence at the quarter section corner on the north side of section thirty-three, town six, north of range eighteen east, in the township of Genessee, Milwaukee county.

SEC. 16. That Charles Mumford, Levi Wood, and Isaac B. Darnall are hereby appointed commissioners to examine, lay out and locate a territorial road, commencing at or near the junction of the military and Mineral Point and Muskoda roads, being in town six, north of range one, east of the fourth principal tre ridian, running thence west on the best and most direct route to the town of Centerville, thence west and southwest from said town on the best and most direct route until said road intersects again with said military road in town six, north of range one, west of the fourth principal meridian.

SEC. 17. The commissioners of highways of the town of Lagrange, Walworth county, are hereby authorized to discontinue so much of the territorial road leading from Prairieville to Heart Prairie, as is comprised within the following limits, viz: Commencing at the point where said territorial road leaves the county road, leading from Round Prairie to Prairieville, and terminating where said territorial road crosses the quarter line of section eleven, town four, range sixteen.

SEC. 18. That Asa Parker, Leonard Martin and Aaron Putman be and they are hereby appointed commissioners to lay out a territorial road commencing at or near the intersection of the north line of Walworth county and the Milwaukee and Janesville road, which is near the northwest corner of section No. two, town four north of range eighteen east; thence northeasterly till it in
