AN ACT

To amend an act entitled “an act to incorporate

the village of Prairieville, and for other purposes.''

Penalty for violation of ordinance.

Be it enacted by the Council and House of Representatires of the Territory of Wisconsin :

Sectioy 1. In all cases in relation to which, by the provisions of said act, the trustees have power to enact or pass ordinances, or bye-laws, in relation to any subject, they may prescribe a penalty for the violation of such ordinance or byelaw, not exceeding fifty dollars, for any one offence in the violation or non observance thereof, and may also provide that in default of payment of any judgment rendered for such violation or non observance, the offender shall be imprisoned for such term as they may by such ordinance direct, not erceeding thirty days, for which purpose the said village shall have the use of the jail of the county of Waukesha, for the imprisonment of any person liable to be imprisoned ; and all persons committed to said jail by the marshal, or any other officer, shall be under the charge of the sheriff of said county:

Provided, said village shall pay the expense of keeping and maintaining such person. Sec. 2. That the corporate name of the village of Prairie- Changing corville, in the county of Waukesha, be, and the same is hereby porate name. changed to that of Waukesha, and by that name the said village shall be hereafter known and designated. Sec. 3. That the name of the town of Prairie ville, in the county of Waukesha, be, and the same is hereby changed to ion Waukesha, and by that name shall be hereafter known and designated. AN ACT

To establish a highway in the town of Prairie du Chien, and for other purposes.

Be it enacted by the Council and House of Representatices of the Territory of Wisconsin:

SECTION 1. That the embanked road and bridge lately costructed between those parts of the town of Prairie du Chien, in the county of Crawford, known as the old French so village and St. Friole, be, and is hereby declared to be a pub- **** lic highway and the supervisors of the road districts in which said highway is situated, is hereby directed to work the said road, and keep the same in repair in the same manner as other highways in their district.

Sec. 2. The inhabitants of said town of Prairie du Chien shall have the right to work out the poll tax assessed upon them, upon said highway, between the old French village and St. Friole.

AN ACT

To legalize the acts of Daniel Pirece. Be it enacted by the Council and House of Representatires of the Territory of Wisconsin :

Section 1. That the official acts of Daniel Pierce, of the town of Hudson, in the county of Walworth, as commissioner of highways, during the years 1815, and 1846, shall be as legal and valid as if he had been duly elected and qualified, and his said acts shall not be questioned, or deemed invalid for any informality, or illegality in his election or appointment.

Sec. 5. That the respective owners of the several dams herein provided for, shall, at the time they shall build said dams, build and thereafter maintain in each of said dams, a convenient slide or chute, said slide not to be less than fif. teen feet wide, and so constructed as not to cause a all of inore than three feet to every twelve feet of smooth surface. 10 admit the free passage of all rafts, and timber down said stream.

Sec. 6. The legislature may alter, amend or repeal this art at any timne.
