AN ACT

To provide for levying a tax on Jefferson school

district in the town of Grafton for building
a school house, and on district number one, in
the town of Elkhorn, for the same purpose.

Be it enacted by the Council and House of Representatives of the Territory of iVisconsin:

Section 1. That the trustees of Jefferson school district, Trustees of in the town of Grafton, Washington county, are hereby au- school distriet

AN ACT

To change the name of Mary Ann Conner and.

and make her the heir at law of Harris H. H. Briggs and Eleea Briggs..

Be it enacted by the Council and House of Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin :

SECTION 1. That the lawful name of Mary Ann Conner shall hereafter be Sarah Briggs, by which name she shall be called and known to all legal intents and purposes.

Sec. 2, The said Sarah Briggs shall be the child and heir at law of Harris H. H. Briggs and Eleea Briggs, the wife of said Harris, and it shall be the duty of the said Harris H. H. Briggs, and Eleea Briggs, to maintain and educate the said Sarah in the same manner as if she were their natural child: Provided however, that nothing in this art contained shall preclude the court of chancery, or any other court of competent jurisdiction from taking into their custody the said Sarah Briggs, as a ward of said eourt, and from the disposing of her in such manner as shall seem ineet to them; nor shall any thing in this act contained prerent the natural parents of said Sarada from having the custody and care of her, in case such court or courts may deem it for the best interest of.the said Saarh, that such nai rai parenis shou d have the care of maintaining and educating her.

Section 1. That the marriage contract heretofore existe ing between Samuel Burdick and Ellen Burdick, be, and the same is hereby dissolved, and the parties to the contract ase

by virtue of this act restored to all the rights and privileges
of unmarried persons.

Be it enacted by the Council and House of Representatires

of the Territory of Wisconsin: Name and

Stillman, and their associates and successors, be, and they are hereby created a body polilic by the name and style of “The Trustees of the Du Lac Academy,” by which name they and their associates and successors shall forever be known and declared; and shall have succession, and power to acquire, receive, purchase, possess, hold, retain and enjoy, in deed and in law, to themselves and their su cessors, property, real, personal and mix. ed, and the same to sell, grant, or convey, rent or otherwise dispose of at pleasure, for the purposes of edacation, and no other: · Provided, the amount of real estate owned by said association shall at no lime exceed the sum of ten thousand

dollars; and they shall have power under said corporate

They shall be elected annually on the first Monday of June, by the stockholders of said company, and shall hold their oisice for the term of one year, and until ochers are chosen in their place. The election shall be by ballot, and each stockholder shall be entitled to one vote for every share owned by him to the number of four shares, and one vote for every four shares owned by him over and above the number of four shares. Votes may be given in person or by proxy. All meetings of the stockholders shall be called by the trustees, or a inajority of them, by posting up notices of said meeting in four public places within the bounds of said stockholders two weeks previously to said meeting. All meetings shall be held in the village of Milion.

Sec. 4. The persons named in this act shall be the first Certain perboard of trustees and shall hold their offices for the term of sons trustees. one year froin the first Monday in January, 1819, and until others are chosen in their place.
