That the interest and convenience of a large number of the citizens of the counties of Walworth, Waukesha and Jefferson, would be greatly enhanced by the establishment of a tri-weekly mail route from Elk Horn, (the county seat of Walworth county,) via Palmyra to Jefferson, (the county seat of Jefferson county,) a distance of about forty miles.

Your memorialists would represent, that the establish ment of said mail route would be of the greatest import ance to the people residing in that portion of the state, most of whom are now nearly destitute of mail facilities, or supplied in a very imperfect manner, having no direct communication with any of the large daily mail routes in

the state.

Your memorialists would, therefore, respectfully ask that the aforesaid mail route may be established at the earliest practicable period.

Approved, February 11, 1853.

Memorial to the Post Master General for increase of Mail Service on Route
No. 4565.

To the Hon. the Post Master General of the United
States:

The Memorial of the Legislature of the State of Wisconconsin, respectfully represents:

That during the season when navigation is closed on the Upper Mississippi river, the entire mail for the territory of Minnesota, North-western Wisconsin, a large portion of Northern Iowa, passes over mail route No. 4565, from Platteville to Prairie du Chien, in Wisconsin, on which route, at this time, there is but a tri-weekly mail. That upon this route about thirty thousand people are dependent for their mail; and in view of the urgent demand for an increase of service thereon, your memorialists would respectfully but earnestly ask that a daily mail service may be granted on the aforesaid route, as a matter of great importance to the section of country interested. Approved, March 19, 1853.

Memorial to the Post Office Department relative to increase of service, on
Mail Route, No. 4529.

The Memorial of the Legislature of the State of Wisconsin respectfully represents:

That the service on mail route, No. 4529, known as the Fond du Lac and Port Washington mail route, is limited to once each week, and the large number of inhabitants, on said mail route, renders it a matter of importance that service on said route should be increased to twice in each week.

And your memorialists would, therefore, respectfully ask that said service may be increased. Approved, March 19, 1853.

shore of Lake Michigan, at the entrance of the Manitowoc river into said lake, nearly midway between the Manitou Islands and the north-east, Bailey's harbor on the north, and the city of Milwaukee on the south, about one -hundred miles distant from any of the three points above named, between which points there is no harbor or place of shelter for the numerous boats and vessels navigating said lake, completed, on which the commerce is already large, and annually rapidly increasing. That during the season of navigation, great loss of life and property occurs on said lake, between the points aforesaid, much of which might be prevented by constructing a harbor at Manitowoc, at which point it is believed a harbor can be built at less expense than at any any other point on the west shore of said lake; that the appropriation of eight thousand dollars already made by congress for this point is barely sufficient to make a respectable beginning of a work of national importance, and well deserving the aid of the Government of the United States, and that should an additional appropriation of fifteen thousand dollars be made, and the aggregate amount be judiciously expended, it would, in the opinion of your memorialists, be sufficient to complete a safe and capacions harbor, easy of access, at the point aforesaid.

And your memorialists respectfully, but earnestly, ask of your honorable body to make the desired appropriation at an early day.

Approved, March 22, 1853.

Memorial to Congress for a Mail Route, from Mishcot to Francis' Creek, in the County of Manitowoc.

To the Honorable the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States:

The Memorial of the Legislature of the State of Wisconsin respectfully represents:

That changing the mail route between Manitowoc and Green Bay, from Francis' Creek, and establishing the same by way of Two Rivers and Mishcot, and the discontinuance of the Post Office at Francis' Creek, has left a large and thickly settled agricultural region of country, nearly destitute of all mail facilities.

Your memorialists, therefore, respectfully, and earnestly request, that a mail route may be established from Mishcot to Francis' Creek, at an early day.

Approved, March 22, 1853.

Memorial to the P. M. General for increase of Mail service on a certain

Mail route.

The Memorial of the Legislature of the State of Wisconsin respectfully represents :

That the present mail facilities on the route from Madison via Montello to Waupaca Falls, are entirely inadequate to the wants and necessities of a densely populated portion of the country, and that it is of the utmost importance to the citizens of the large town of Montello, and the people north of that place, that such mail service should, at least, be increased to a tri-weekly mail, and that it is believed that if the same were established, it would cause no additional expense to the department,
