SENATE JOURNAL.

Monday, January 3, 1842.

This being the day designated by the constitution of the state of Michigan, for the assembling of the legislature, the Senate met in their chamber at the capitol, in the city of Detroit. There being no President of the Senate, the secretary of the preceding session, (Dan W. Kellogg,) called the Senate to order, and proceeded to call the roll of members, when the following Senators answered to their

names:

Messrs. Deming, Gidley, Trowbridge, Walker.

Absent-Messrs. Champlin and Fuller.

The names of the Senators elect were then called, and the following members severally answered and subscribed the constitutional oath of office, administered by William A. Fletcher, chief justice of the state, and took their seats as Senators, to wit:

First district-Jonathan Shearer, Lyman Granger.
Second district-James Kingsley, Edwin M. Cust.
Third district-William L. Greenly, John Burch.
Fourth district-Edward A. Warner, Henry Hewitt.
Fifth district-Digby V. Bell.

Sixth district-Daniel B. Wakefield, Isaac Wixom.

On motion of Mr. Walker,

The Senate then proceeded to the election of President of the Senate, pro tempore; and the names of the members being called, they severally voted viva voce, as follows:
