Ill., March 1, 1924. Paul Jones of DePauw
university won the all-round championship
with a total of 5,136 points. Dean Brownell
of Illinois broke the world's record for the
pole vault off a dirt floor. He cleared the bar

Forty-five nations represented by a total of 1.430 athletes took part in the Olympic games of 1924. The track and field events took place at the stadium in the Parisian suburb of Colombes and the winter sports at Chamonix. Switzerland. Other events took place in Paris and vicinity. The winter sports began Jan. 24, while the games as a whole ended July 27, on which date 361 medals were awarded to the winners. Of these medals ninety-eight were awarded to the United States, which stood at the head of the list. Following is the official standing of the nations as announced at the conclusion of the competitions:
