Mr. Converse introduced the following resolution:

Resolved, by the Senate and House of Representatives, That the Commissioner of the School Fund be, and hereby is, directed to postpone the collection of a certain note, executed to the Commissioner of said Fund, for the sum of three thousand and eighteen dollars and seventyeight cents, on annual interest, signed by George W. Benedict, Heman Allen, Charles Adams, William A. Griswold, William I. Seymour and William Warner, for the use and benefit of the University of Vermont, bearing date December 17th, 1843, for the term of two years from the 17th day of December next.

Which was read, and ordered to lie on the table, on motion of Mr. Bill.

(H. 146.) Mr. Crowley introduced a bill entitled "An act to incorporate the Washington Iron Company."

Which was read the first time and referred to the Committee on Manufactures.

Mr. Bill introduced the following resolution :

Resolved, That the Committee on Military Affairs be requested to inquire into the expediency of altering or amending so much of section 23 of the Militia Law of 1842, as relates to the requirement of performing military duty for the term of eight years from the time of enlistment. Which was read, and ordered to lie on the table, on motion of Mr. Stevens.

On motion of Mr. Hammond, the House took into consideration the resolution introduced this forenoon by Mr. Converse; Mr. Hammond moved an amendment to said resolution; when, on motion of Mr. Stevens, said resolution and amendment were ordered to lie on the table.

A message from the Governor by Mr. Beaman, Secretary of Civil and Military Affairs:

MR. SPEAKER-1 am directed by the Governor to announce to the House of Representatives that he has approved and signed bills of the following titles, namely:

(H. 96.) "An act in explanation of Section 49 of Chapter 20 of the Revised Statutes, relating to the discontinuance of Roads."

(H. 94.) "An act to continue in force the act incorporating the Bank of Orange County."

(H. 118.)

An act restoring Stuart Lilley to his legal privileges."

(H. 115.) Mr. Stevens moved to reconsider the vote by which the House yesterday dismissed the bill entitled An act for the relief of the University of Vermont."

On motion of Mr. Russell, the Report of the Commissioners to visit the University of Vermont was read.

And on the question, Will the House reconsider their vote dismissing said bill? it was decided in the negative.

A message from the Senate, by Mr. Clarke, their Secretary : MR. SPEAKER-The Senate have passed a resolution directing the Secretary of State to furnish the Superintendent and each of the Directors of the State Prison with a copy of the act relating to the State Prison, passed at the present session.

The Senate have also passed bills of the following titles:

(S. 39.) "An act in amendment of an act in addition to Chapter 19 of the Revised Statutes, relating to the instruction of the Deaf, Dumb, and Blind,' passed November 12, 1842."

(S. 38.) "An act relating to Public Accounts."

(S. 49.) "An act relating to Highways near the line of adjoining Towns."

In which resolution and bills they request the concurrence of the House of Representatives.

The Senate concur with the House of Representatives in passing bills of the following titles:

(H. 125.) An act authorizing the Treasurer to borrow the sum therein mentioned."

(H. 124.) "An act making appropriations for the support of Gov

ernment.

(H..121.) "An act to assess a tax for the support of Government."

(H. 147.) M. Lawrence introduced a bill entitled "An act to incorporate the Otter Creek Iron Company."

Which was read the first time, and referred to the Committee on Manufactures.

(H. 137.) Mr. Russell, from the Judiciary Committee, to which was referred the bill entitled "An act in addition to Chapter 72 of the Revised Statutes, relating to Usury," reported in favor of the passage of said bill with amendments; which amendments were adopted.

Mr. Waterman moved to dismiss said bill.

And on the question, Shall the bill be dismissed? the yeas and nays, having been demanded by Mr. Howe of Shoreham, were taken, and

(H. 123.) Mr. Swift, from the Judiciary Committee, to which was referred the bill entitled "An act in addition to Chapter 29 of the Revised Statutes, relating to Trustee Process," reported that said bill ought not to pass.

Mr. Jones of Chelsea moved to dismiss said bill; and the question being taken, was decided in the negative.
