conferred upon me, out of thy mere boun ty and goodness. I owe my life to thee alone, and all the comforts of them, together with all the hopes I have hereafter, either in this world, or the other. And bleffed, for ever blessed be thy merciful kindness, for giving fuch glorious hopes by the Lord Jefus, by his death and refurrection, by his afcenfion, and being inthron'd at thy right hand, and by the coming of the Holy Ghoft to be a witness of his majesty and glory. I rejoice, O Lord, in that great falvation, which thou haft fent unto me, and cannot but be still praising thee, whose love hath fo abounded towards me, beyond all my thoughts and defires. Pardon, I moft humbly befeech thee, out of the fame grace and mercy, all my paft neglects of thee, my infenfibleness of thy benefits, my carelesness, or inconftancy in my obedience, and particularly whatfoever I have done or omitted this day, contrary to those holy purposes and refolutions wherein I ftand engaged to thee.

And vouchsafe me the affiftance of thy holy Spirit to inable me to perform thofe vows better, which here I renew of grea

ter gratitude, and more chearful and ftedfaft obedience to thy divine Majesty, for the time to come. Awaken my mind to frequent and ferious reflections upon thy undeserved and most bountiful mercies towards me. Touch my heart with fuch an ingenuous and dutiful sense of them, that my will may be overcome to yield itself wholly and abfolutely to thee. And, that I may feel them conftantly provoked to love and good works, help me ever to set my Lord and Master, by whofe name I am called, before my eyes; and to admire his unfpotted purity, his condefcending humility, his tender-hearted charity, his meeknefs of wisdom, his hearty truft in thee, and refignation to thee, his forgiveness of injuries, his patience under reproaches and cruel torments, his peaceable and contented fpirit, his acknowledging thee in all things, and ever seeking thy honour and glory: That being in love with all these, and valuing them more than life it felf, Í may never cease my endeavours, till this image of my dear Lord and Master be formed in my heart.

O Lord Jefus, favourably behold these holy defires, wherewith my foul afpires VOL. III. Eee towards

towards thee. Preferve and maintain them; incourage and increase them; make me restless and unwearied, till they be accomplished in the injoyment of this great bleffednefs.

Thou, who haft begun a good work in me, finish and compleat it, I most humbly and earnestly beseech thee. Give me thy grace continually for my feasonable relief and fuccour; that I, perfevering in well doing, may have a folid and lively hope in my death, of coming to fee thee in that high and holy place, where thou liveft and reigneft for evermore.

As for all the things of this life, I most heartily refer my felf to thy Fatherly Wif dom and Goodnefs, O Lord God Almighty; trusting thou wilt order for me that which is moft convenient, and bless my honest diligence with fuch a competent portion of it, that I may have the more leisure to give continual praife, honour, bleffing and thankfgiving to thee, whofe mercies endure for

ever.

Accept, I pray thee, of my thankful ac. knowledgments at this time, for those which this day hath added to the rest of thy benefits, which thou hast been continu

ally heaping upon me ever fince I was born: And let all the people of the earth praise the name of the Lord, which is highly exalted above all bleffing and praise. O that all the kingdoms of the world would become the kingdoms of my Saviour Christ: and that all they, who acknowledge his authority, would religiously obey his holy laws; that all wars, oppreffion, and cru elty may cease among chriftian people, and they may live together in brotherly love and unity. Make our foveraign and all his realms happy by a great increase of true knowledge, godlinefs, and virtue every where. Bless all my friends; forgive my enemies; requité all the kindnets of my benefactors; comfort every one of thy defolate and afflicted fervants; and turn their mourning and heaviness into joy and glad、 nefs at the laft.

And now that I am going to repofe my felf; keep me, I befeech thee, and all belonging to me, in fafety. Refresh my wearied fpirits with comfortable rest and fleep; and when I awaken again in the morn ing, direct my thoughts immediately to thee, my merciful Preferver; and help me to imploy all my renewed ftrength to thy Eee 2 honour

honour and glory, according to thy will declared by Chrift Jefus; in whose blessed Name and Words I commend myself to thy infinite Mercies.

Our Father, &c.

A Prayer for Wednesday Morning.

O

Moft great and mighty Lord, the Poffeffor of heaven and earth; All the angels worship and adore thy incomprehenfible Majefty with the humbleft reverence, and rejoice in rendering praise, blessing, and thanksgiving to thee, the Father of fpirits: For thou haft created all things, and in wisdom haft thou made them all, and spread thy tender mercies over all thy works. It is no less my happiness, than my duty, to joyn my heart and voice with that heavenly hoft, moft gratefully to acknowledge thy bounty to me among the reft of thy creatures, and thy particular grace and favour in our Lord Jefus Christ, my moft merciful Saviour and Redeemer. I can never fufficiently admire that love, which gave him to die for me, and hath
