I am directed to inform you that the senate has amended, and concurred in as amended,

Jt. Res. No. 36, A.,

Appointing a committee to wait upon the governor,

And has appointed Senator Burrows as such committee on the part of the senate.

SENATE MESSAGE CONSIDERED.

The senate amendment to

Jt. Res. No. 36, A.,

Was concurred in.

REPORT OF JOINT COMMITTEE APPOINTED UNDER JT. RES. No. 36, A.

The joint committee appointed under Jt. Res. No. 36, A., would respectfully report that they have conferred with his excellency the governor, in accordance with instructions received, and that the governor has informed them that he has no further communications to make.

GEO. B. BURROWS,
On the part of the senate.

JOHN BRINDLEY,
THOMAS McDILL,
H. NABER,

On the part of the assembly,

The speaker addressed the assembly as follows:

Fellow members and officers of the assembly: The time fixed for the final adjournment of this legislative body has arrived.

When called to the chair nine weeks since I deeply felt the responsibility imposed, and believed that my success as speaker depended in a great measure upon the support of my fellows. To this end I bespoke your cordial co-operation.

I desire now to say, you have more than fulfilled my most sanguine expectations, for which I tender my heartfelt thanks.

As I then expressed a desire, you have been a courteous, dignified and industrious body.

The several committees have each been thorough, and prompt to consider bills in their hands, so that each day we have had business on our calendar which has been cleared at nearly every adjournment.

In my appointments on committees, I endeavored to consult the public welfare, and in my rulings parliamentary law, thus, as I believed, guarding the interests of the state and saving the rights of minorities.

For the gentlemanly and courteous manner with which you have invariably acquiesced in my rulings, you also have my most ardent thanks.

The recollections of this session will be an oasis in my life. To its pleasant differences and agreements my mind will often revert. I assure you that for each I have the most kindly feelings, that will last while my mind and body are united.

We have formed friendships here that will be enduring.

Such laws have been passed, I trust, as will meet the people's approval.

Whatever may be our respective records for usefulness, if we take to our friends untarnished honors, and a sense of performing our several duties to the best of our ability, we will meet the approbation, not perhaps, of the entire people, but of Him who always judgeth aright.

We are now to separate from each other, to return to our homes, there to mingle with those that claim more than our friendship, to those we love.

The officers and employees of this assembly have always been prompt, and all that I could ask.

So far as the proceedings of this house have been reported by the representatives of the press, I believe they have been fair and honorable, for which they should have our united thanks.

So much industry, courtesy and good feeling seldom pervades & legislative body.

We part, as we have worked together, mutual friends.
I now declare this assembly adjourned sine die.
