Statutes OF THE STATE OF WISCONSIN. 1849. An Act to extend the time for collecting and returning Taxes in the town Chap. 1. of Waukesha. THE People of the State of Wisconsin represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows: ed. SECTION. 1. The time for collecting the town, county, and Time extend state taxes for the year one thousand eight hundred and forty-eight, in the town of Waukesha, and paying over the same to the treasurer, is hereby extended until the twentieth day of February next. SEC. 2. The collector of said town is hereby invested with all the powers necessary by law for collecting the same, until the 20th day of February next. H. C. HOBART, Speaker of the Assembly, J. E. THE People of the State of Wisconsin represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows: Chap. 2. ent. SECTION 1. The governor of the state shall be ex officio super- Gov. ex officio intendent of public property until otherwise provided by law, and superintend shall have charge and control of the library and other moveable state property; the capitol and public grounds around the same: Provided, That nothing herein contained shall authorize the gov ernor to interfere with any rooms in the capitol that now are, or hereafter may be, appropriated by law, for the use of the legislature or state officers, during the time the same may be so used and occupied. SEC. 2. That for the purpose of carrying out the provisions of Authorized to this act, the governor is authorised and empowered to appoint a appoint libra- state librarian, who shall hold his office for one year, unless soon rian. Gov. to take possession. er removed by the governor, or by joint resolution of the legisla ture, or by law; and to employ such workmen in and about the capitol and public grounds as may be necessary to keep the same in a proper state of cleanliness and repair, and to make such ime, provements as shall appear necessary, or as may from time to time be authorized by law. SEC. 3. The state librarian when so appointed shall execute to the state a bond in such amount, with such conditions, and with such security, as the governor shall direct and approve. SEC. 4. The state librarian shall perform such duties as are now required to be performed by the superintendent of public property, and shall also perform such other duties as shall hereafter be prescribed by law, or by the governor, subject to the control, supervision, and direction of the governor, as such superintendent. The governor may make such rules and regulations not inconsist ent with the law, as he may deem proper for the government of the state library. SEC. 5. The governor is hereby authorized to enter into and take immediate possession of the library, and all that thereto appertains; and upon the passage of this act, the state property in and about the capitol shall be deemed in the possession of the state, and under the exclusive control of the governor. Any rate of interest agreed upon by parties in conAny rate le tract, specifying the same in writing, shall be legal and valid. gal. SEC. 2. When no rate of interest is agreed upon or specified in a note or contract, seven per cent. per annum shall be the legal rate. SEC. 3. The name of Nils Cornelius Gulbrandsen of the Name chang town of Muskego, Waukesha county, is hereby changed to Nils ed. THE People of the State of Wisconsin represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows: of school see SECTION 1. Elisha Eldred of the county of Milwaukee, and Re-appraisal Charles M. Goodell of the county of Walworth, and Benja- tion. min Hawkins of the county of Waukesha, are hereby appointed appraisers, to appraise section sixteer in township three north of range twenty three east, and shall have the same powers and compensation as the original appraisers appointed by joint resolution approved August sixteenth one thousand eight hundred and fortyeight, were entitled to, and shall perform the same duties, and be paid in the same manner as now provided by law, except that a reasonable time hereafter shall be allowed to said appraisers to perform said duties not exceeding thirty days. SEC. 2. In case any of the said appraisers shall fail on account of sickness or for other reason to perform said duties, the governor shall appoint some person or persons to act as such appraiser in their place.
