THE People of the State of Wisconsin, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows: SECTION 1. All sheriffs, jailors, prison keepers, and their and each and every of their deputies within this state, to whom any person or persons shall be sent and committed, by virtue of legal process issued by or under the authority of the United States, shall be and they are hereby enjoined and required to receive such persons into custody, and to keep them safely until they be discharged by due course of the laws of the United States; and all such sheriffs, jailors, prison keepers and their deputies offending in the premises shall be liable to the same pains and penalties, and the parties aggrieved shall be entitled to the same remedies against them or any of them, as if such prisoners had been committed to their custody by virtue of legal process issued under the authority of this state. THE People of the State of Wisconsin, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows: SECTION 1. That all those tracts or parcels of land lying and being in the counties of Iowa and La Fayette, bounded and described as follows: beginning at the southwest corner of section twenty-eight, in town four north, range three east, running north three and a half miles to the half mile stake in the line dividing sections eight and nine, thence east to the centre of section twelve, three and one-half miles, thence south three and one-half miles to the half mile stake in the line dividing section twenty-five and thirty-six, thence three and one half miles to the place of beginning, be and the same hereby is constituted into a school district, with all the rights and privileges appertaining to school districts organized within the limits of a county, and that said district shall be known as Union school district. SEC. 2. That the inhabitants of said school district residing on either side of the county line of the counties of Iowa and La Fayette may at any time hereafter organize themselves into a school district within the limits of their respective counties in the manner prescribed by law, a majority of the inhabitants of said district first voting for such separate organization aforesaid. An Act amendatory to "an act to provide for the division of the several counties under the county system of government, into towns." THE People of the State of Wisconsin, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows: SECTION 1. That so much of section third of an act of which this is amendatory, approved August 17th, 1848, requiring the first town meeting of the counties now under the county system of gov ernment, to be held on the first Tuesday of March next, be so amended that said first town meetings be held on the first Tuesday of April next. SEC. 2. SEC. 2. The commissioners appointed under the provisions of this act shall, upon the performance of the work, be entitled to such compensation for their said services, as the county supervisors of the counties where such services are performed shall deem just and proper, each county to pay the expense incurred within its own bounds: Provided, that neither of said counties shall be required to pay for the expense of the survey and making said road more than one hundred doliars, exclusive of the expense of the commissioners. SEC. 3. That Henry Sheans, Joel Marsh, and Alvin Foster be and they are hereby appointed commissioners to lay out and establish a state road, from the village of Mayville in the county of Dodge, to the village of Merton, in Waukesha county, by way of the village of Hartford in Washington county: Provided, that no expense to the state be incurred in laying out said road. An Act to provide for the payment of the Commissioners appointed to locate the State Lands. THE People of the State of Wisconsin, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows : SECTION 1. There is hereby appropriated, to be paid out of the state treasury, the following sums of money, to wit: To James Giddings, for ninety-five days service as commissioner to locate the state lands, two hundred and eighty-five dollars. To Jerome Yates for one hundred day's service as commissioner, three hundred dollars. To Francis Henry, for eighty-four days service, as commissioner, two hundred and fifty-two dollars. To William Hood, for one hundred and eleven days service, as commissioner, three hundred and thirty-three dollars. To John C. Gillman, for seventy-three days service, as commissioner, two hundred and nineteen dollars; also, for expenses paid in locating lands, and properly chargeable to the state, ten dollars and seventy-five cents. To J. S. Fisk, for furnishing township plats in Green Bay Land District, seventeen dollars and twenty-five cents.
