William Caxton appears to have been the first who introduced the art into England, at Westminster, 1474.

Mr. Thomas, in his History of Printing in America, asserts that a press was established at Mexico some years before 1569.

As respects the introduction of printing into this country, Massachusetts claims preCcedence over all the other States. It was established at Cambridge by the agency of the Rev. Jesse Glover, for the benefit of Harvard College, under the superintendence of Stephen Daye, in January, 1639, and was first introduced into Boston, in 1675, by John Foster, of Dorchester.

Boston has the credit of issuing the first newspaper in North America, which was commenced on Monday, April 24, 1704, by John Campbell, Esq. under the title of the Boston News-Letter.
