the Gaelic Scriptures would be ready for the press; and after considerable discussion, they have come to the resolution that the work of the Revisers will be completed within a year from this time; and they trust to be able to report to next General Assembly that they are prepared to place the revised text in the hands of the printer. THE following are proposed emendations on the 1826 Quarto Edition of the Gaelic Bible, agreed to by the Joint-Committees of the Established and Free Churches on the Gaelic Scriptures I. That in all cases the Orthography be made uniform throughout both Testaments. II. That the following Abbreviations in Orthography be adopted, instead of the corresponding ones now in use: 18. ann an, and ann am, to be abbreviated into 'an, 'am. 19. That the full sign of the present participle is aig or ag, the latter being the form in use, but the a or the g should be elided, as euphony may require; and every case of an elision, whether of one letter or of the whole word, should be marked by an apostrophe. 20. That Dhé should be substituted for Dé as the genitive of Dia, except in poetry. See Gen. i. 3, and in similar cases. 21. It was agreed that the dissyllable bitheadh should be used for biodh, Gen. xiv. 15. III. Full form of prepositional and other phrases, to be used in particular instances, or where the nature and character of the expression require the same :— Anns an toiseach for 'san toiseach, Gen. i. 1; ii. 4. a chum, a dh' ionnsuidh Gen. i. 6; iii. 8. that chum should be written after a vowel or quiescent consonant, and a chum after consonant sounded. So also in regard to a dh'ionnsuidh. thuige agus uaithe, Is. xxiv. 20; Ps. cvii. 27. rithe for ri, (to her). IV. That the following Modifications in Orthography be approved : (a) 1. That the phrase, as in Gen. xvi. 5, “gu 'n d'thugadh” should be "gu 'n tugadh," and in all similar cases. 2. That the phrase dh'fheudtadh be used in Lam. iv. 2, and similar cases. 3. That mu'n and not mu-n is the correct form of the conjunction in the phrase "mu'n d'thàinig," in Gen. xxvii. 33, and they do not consider that 'm, 'n, or 'r, in this and similar cases, is merely euphonic. 4. That fo should be used instead of fuidh, as the translation of the preposition under. 5. That cha-n, and not cha'n, is the accurate form of the negative with the euphonic n.
