GAELIC SCRIPTURES.

REPORT.

THIS Committee has met frequently during the year in conjunction with the Committee of the Established Church. At those meetings the Joint-Committees continued from previous years the discussion of proposed emendations on the Quarto Edition of 1826. As the most easy way of presenting to the Church the result of those discussions, they have resolved to give a list of the words and phrases considered, with the emendations proposed, in so far as they have gone. These will be found in this Report.

The Committee have to lament the loss, during the year, of one of their number-the Rev. Alexander M'Innes of Tummell Bridge, whom the General Assembly of 1865 had appointed one of the six Revisers to be chosen by this Church. Mr M'Innes' high qualifications as a Gaelic scholar render his death one much to be deplored in connection with this work. They have appointed the Rev. Niel Dewar of Kingussie to fill his place, an appointment which they trust the General Assembly will approve.

The Committee have, in their later meetings, had under their consideration the time when their revised version of
