Free Church of Scotland. REPORT OF COLLEGE COMMITTEE TO THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY. MAY 1867. THE only matters of interest which the College Committee deem it necessary to bring under notice of the General Assembly are those relating to the state of accounts for the past year, the statistics of attendance at the several Colleges of the Free Church during last session, and the Bursaries and Scholarships awarded to the more distinguished students. FUNDS. The state of the General College Fund for the past year is satisfactory : The Income, Balance in favour of the Committee, £4395 19 2 4128 3 5 £267 15 7 The debt remaining on the New College Building is stated in the Treasurer's account at £2441, 5s. 2d. A small unappropriated legacy of £44, 4s. has been paid over by the General Trustees to this Fund in the course of the year; and the College Committee have authorized the Treasurer to apply so much from the surplus income of the General Fund as will pay the interest on the capital sum. STUDENTS. The number of students enrolled in the several Colleges last session is as follows: In addition to this number, there were 10 from Ireland, Of the students of the fourth year, 30 have passed the Examination Board, with a view of applying for License-at Edinburgh, 16; at Aberdeen, 4; and at Glasgow, 10. This number is lower considerably than at any former time. It is, however, so far satisfactory that the aggregate number of students for the Free Church has for the last three sessions been considerably greater than in many years preceding; so that it may be hoped this decrease will prove exceptional, and confined to this present year. SCHOLARSHIPS AND BURSARIES AWARDED TO THE MORE DISTINGUISHED STUDENTS. At Edinburgh New College THE MILLER SCHOLARSHIPS. After the usual comparative trial in November last, in Biblical and General Knowledge, Latin, Greek, and Elementary Mathe matics, these Scholarships were adjudged to Thomas Philip.
