Mr. Baker, having received a majority of all the votes cast, was declared duly and constitutionally elected Engrossing Clerk of the Senate.

The Speaker announced that the next business before the Senate was, the election of a Doorkeeper, and that nominations were now in order.

The names of W. T. Cate, Costing, and A. J. Shipley, were placed in nomination.

The Senate proceeded to ballot, with the following result:

Mr. Cate having received a majority of all the votes cast, was declared duly and constitutionally elected Doorkeeper of the Senate. The Speaker announced that the next business before the Senate was the election of an Assistant Doorkeeper and Messenger; and nominations being in order, the following names were placed in nomination:

Mr. Foster having received a majority of all the votes cast, was declared duly and constitutionally elected Assistant Doorkeeper and Messenger of the Senate.

Messrs. Nelson, Baker, Cate and Foster were then sworn into office by Hon. R. R. Butler, and assigned the duties of their respective positions.

Mr. Cate offered Senate Resoulution No. 1, to-wit:

Resolved, That the Clerk of the Senate inform the House of Representatives that the Senate is now organized, and ready to proceed to business.

Adopted.

The Senate adjourned to meet at 9 o'clock, A. M., to-morrow.

Senators absent, were: Elliott, Fuson, Norman, Smith, and Wisener-6.

The Speaker announced a quorum present, and the minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.

Mr. Cate offered Senate Resolution No. 2, to-wit:

Resolved, That the Rules of the Senate of 1865–6, be adopted for the government of this body, and that one hundred copies be printed for the use of the same.

Adopted.
