SENATE JOURNAL.

FIRST SESSION, 1867-68.

MONDAY, OCTOBER 7, 1867.

The General Assembly of the State of Tennessee, began and held in the City of Nashville, State of Tennessee, on Monday, the 7th day of October, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-seven, it being the first session of the Thirty-fifth General Assembly of the State of Tennessee, on which day, (it being the day fixed by the Constitution of Tennessee for the meeting of the General Assembly,) the following gentlemen appeared, produced their credentials, and took their seats; the oath required by the Constitution, being administered by the Hon. H. H. Harrison, Chancellor of the Fourth Chancery Division of the State of Tennessee, Hon. Wm. Wyatt affirming :

On motion of Mr. Senter,

Hon. Jno. B. Rodgers was called to the Chair, for the purpose of organizing the Senate.

Prayer by Rev. Mr. Huntington.

The Speaker pro tem. announced that the first business in order was the election of a permanent Speaker.

Mr. Smith nominated the Senator from Carroll-Mr. Norman. Mr. Nelson nominated the Senator from Grainger-Mr. Senter. Mr. Garner nominated the Senator from Maury-Mr. Frierson. There being no further nominations, the Senate proceeded to ballot, with the following result:

Eckel, Elliott, Matthews, Smith, Underwood, and Wilson-6.

Senators voting for Mr. Senter, were:

Aldridge, Cate, Eaton, Frierson, Henderson, Keith, Lyle, Nelson, Patterson, Rodgers, and Wyatt-11.

Senators voting for Mr. Frierson, were:

Cary, Fuson, Garner, Norman, Parker, Senter, and Wisener—6.

There being no election, the Senate proceeded to ballott a second time, with the following result:
