Orlando and Slane were knocked down to Mr. Greville, and Ion to the French government.

Two or three changes, comings, or threatenings, during the month, promise to make a more interesting race for the St. Leger than we have had for some time. To begin with, the Danebury party came out largely with Hothorpe; then John Scott, and his friends in the city, found Newminster better than ever, and got him up to nearly first favourite; while Sir Joseph, since the defeat of Aphroditè, has been creeping up with The Ban, now, in consequence of the York running, quoted on equal terms with Hernandez. There is a strong opinion out that the Leger will go this season to the same stable which won the Derby, though the public have not yet quite ascertained with which it is to be accomplished. Despite all this, however, the Goodwood horse remains in great force, and must, if well, take a deal of beating Prime Minister, too, on the same understanding, will be backed to the post-where we expect to see a short field with a good race, and if not too clever for themselves, the Goodwood stable well in front. The Derby Betting has been next to none at all, and the long shots at the October handicaps are too random for comment.
