Was taken up, and ordered to be read the third time now.

Said memorial was then read the third time, passed, and the title thereof agreed to.

On motion of Mr. Billings, The House resolved itself into a committee of the whole on the general file of bills;

Mr. Sheldon in the chair.
And after some time spent therein,

The Private Secretary of the Governor was announced ; when

The Speaker took the chair, and the following message was announced, to wit:

“Mr, Speaker-I am directed by the Governor to inform you that he did, on this day, approve, sign and deposit in the office of the Secretary of the Territory,

"An act to incorporate the city of Milwaukee;'

• An act to provide for paying the Adjutant General of the Militia for his former services and disbursements ;'

An act to amend an act entitled ' an act to incorporate the village of Fair Flay,' approved Feb. 24, 1845;'

* An act to vacate a part of Second street, in the town of Potosi, in the county of Grant, and for other purposes ;'

"An act to authorize school district No.5, in the town of Elkhorn, Walworth county, to renew a tax warrant;'

Resolution for the appointment of a committee to examine the Bank of Mineral Point;'

* An act to provide for the division, of the county of Milwaukee;'

* An act to divide the county of Iowa, and establish the counties of La Fayette and Montgomery;' and

"An act to provide for the improvement of Grant river, at Potosi, in Grant county.'”

The committee again resumed its session,

And after some time spent therein, rose, and by their chairman reported

No. 51, (H. of R.) “A bill to authorize Abraham Brawley to build a dam or boom across the Wisconsin river ;"

No. 72, (C.) “A bill relating to party's fces ;'
No. 12, (C'.) "A bill relating to the county of St. Croix ;"!

No. 40, (C.) - A bill to provide for laying out certain territorial roads therein named;" and

No. 65, (H. of R.) "A bill to amend an act entitled 'an act to provide for the selection of certain lands reserved by act of Congress for the use and support of a University in the Territory of Wisconsin ;”.

With amendments to each. Also,

No, 8, (11. of R.)"Resolution relative to trespassers on the university lands;"

No. 7, (H. of R.).“ Memorial to Congress for the appropriation of Fort Howard to the Territory of Wisconsin for educational purposes ;"

No. 9, (H. of R.) “Memorial to Congress for an appropriation for the erection of a light house at Grassy Island, near the mouth of Fox river ;"

No. 6, (H. of R.) “Memorial to Congress for an appropriation for a road from Manitowoc to intersect the road from Green Bay to Fond du Lac ;'!

No. 8, (C.) “A memoral to the Congress of the United States relating to a road from Prairie du Chein to La Pointe ;"

No. 66, (C.) “A bill to incorporate the village of Prairieville ;"

No. 86, (C.) “A bill relating to certain streets in the city. of Milwaukee;"!

No. 26, (C.). A bill authorizing proceedings in chancery against corporations;' and

No. 68, (H. of R.) “ A bill to authorize school district No. 1, in Grant county, to levy an additional tax for paying a debt incurred in building a school house ;"!

Without amendment.

And also reported progress on the general file of bills, and asked leave to sit again thereon.

Leave was granted.

The amendments of the committee of the whole to Nos. 51 and 65, (H. of R.) and Nos. 42 and 72, (C.) were then concurred in ; and

Bills Nos. 51, 65 and 68, (II. of R.) and memorials Nos. 6, 7 and 9 (II. of R.) were ordered to be engrossed for a third reading ; and

Bills Nos. 42, 40, 26 and 86, (C.) and memorial No. 8, (C.) were ordered to a third reading;

And, on motion,

The said bills were severally read the third time, passed, and the titles thereof agreed to.

On motion of Mr. Burnett,
Memorial No. 8, (C.) was laid on the table:

On motion of Mr. MaGone, No. 66, (C.) was referred to a select committee consisting' of the members from Milwaukee county.

Mr. Mooers, agreeably to previous notice and by leave, introduced

No. 69, (H. of R.) " A bill to organize school district No. 1, in the town of Fond du Lac for special purposes ;"' Which was read the first and second times..

On motion of Mr. Burnett, The House adjourned until half-past seven o'clock P. M.

Mr. Burnett moved that

No. 16, (H. of R.) “ A bill in addition to an act entitled 'an act to amend the act of the Revised Statutes entitled 'an act concerning the writ of attachment,' approved Feb. 15th, 1842."

Be now taken up; Which was agreed to. Mr. Billings moved that said bill be indefinitely postponed; Which was decided in the affirmative. And the ayes and noes having been called for, Those who voted in the affirmative were, Messrs. Barstow, Billings, Brawley, Clapp, Crawford, Croswell, Dennis, Graves, Jackson, MaGone, Mooers, Phelps, Pole, Sheldon, Thomas, Wooster and Darling, (Speaker,) -- 17.

Those who voted in the negative were, Messrs. Burnett, Cruson, Earl], Fisher, Hoard, Morrow and Parker,—7.

A message from the Council, by their Secretary:

“Mr. Speaker-The Council have concurred in the amendments of this House to

No. 35, (C.) A bill to incorporate the village of Sheboy. gan;'

No. 13, (C.) “A bill to incorporate the village of Madi. son;' and

No. 71, (C.) ' A bill relating to bridges in the city of Milwaukee.'

The Council have passed

No. 89, (C.) 'A bill to amend an act entitled 'an act to provide for the payment to the couuty of Dane the sum therein mentioned,' approved Feb. 22d, 1845;'

In which the concurrence of this House is requested.
And have rejected

No. 3, (H. of R.) “A bill to change the time of holding courts in the 2d judicial district.'

The Council have passed

No. 53, (H. of R.) 'A bill to incorporate certain towns therein named;'

With an amendment; In which the concurrence of this House is requested. And have rejected No. 56, (H. of R.) A bill to provide for a superintendent of common schools.'

The Council have passed

No. 77, (C.) 'A bill repealing an act which vacated an alley in Southport;' and

No. 54, (H. of R.) ' A bill to amend an act entitled 'an act to provide for the government of the several towns in this Territory, for the revision of county government and for other purposes,!'

Mr. Thomas moved that
