Mr. Burnett moved that the further consideration of said bill be indefinitely postponed;

Mr. Burnett moved to amend the bill by adding the following paragraph:

"That the sum of sixty-one dollars and thirty-five cents be, and the same is hereby allowed to Augustus A. Bird, for sheriff s fees in the suits of the Territory versus Doty and others ;"

Which was agreed to.

Mr. Dennis moved further to amend by adding the following:

"Provided, that before the Auditor of the Territory shall be authorized to issue any warrant for the payment of the above named interest, or any portion thereof, he shall be satisfied from an examination of the records of the Secretary and Treasurer's office, that the interest has not before been paid, and shall also require the applicant to file in his office his affidavit that the interest has not before been paid, or any part thereof ;"

Which was agreed to.

On motion said bill was ordered to its third reading now, and was read the third time, passed, and the title thereof agreed

to.

Mr. Morrow moved that said bill be laid on the table- until Monday next;

Which was disagreed to.

Mr. Morrow, by leave, introduced the following resolution; Which was adopted, to wit:

Resolved, That the committee on Finance, to whom was referred so much of the Governor's message as relates to the indebtedness of the Territory, be, and is hereby directed to communicate to this House any and all information of which they are in possession upon this subject, and whether any ascertainment of such debt can be had, and if so, the amount of the same.

The message of the Council was then taken up, and the folowing entitled bills were then read the first and second times. No. 77. (C.) "A bill repealing an act which vacated an alley in Southport ;"

No. 89, (C.) "A bill to amend an act entitled an act to provide for the payment to the county of Dane, the sum therein mentioned,' approved February 22, 1845."

No. 53, (H. of R.) "A bill to organize certain towns therein named,"

Was taken up and the amendments of the Council to said bill concurred in.

No. 54, (H. of R.) "A bill to amend an act entitled' an act to provide for the government of the several towns in this Territory, for the revision of county government and for other purposes,'

On motion of Mr. Billings,

The reading of the journal was dispensed with.

Mr. Burnett presented a petition of citizens of Grant coun ty, asking for an alteration in the law relative to the assessment and collection of taxes;

Which was laid on the table.

Mr. Burnett, from the committee on the judiciary, to which the petition of inhabitants of Portage county, asking for the removal of the county seat of said county: Also, petition of citizens of Dodge county, asking to have the law regulating the surveying of lands altered: Also, a petition of citizens of the county of Walworth, asking for a repeal of the law taxing personal property in said county:

Reported that in the opinion of the committee it was inexpedient to attempt any legislation on the subjects therein. mentioned, at the present session, and asked to be discharged from the further consideration of the said petitions;

Which was agreed to.

Also, from the same committee, to which had been referred the petition of Methodist ministers, asking for an alteration in the law regulating marriages, made the following report: [See Appendix.]

The report was accepted, and the committee discharged from the further consideration of the subject.

On motion of Mr. Mooers,

Two hundred copies of said report were ordered to be printed.
