By Mr. Dennis. A petition of the inhabitants of Dodge county, to have the law repealed which authorizes the Supervisors of highways to enter upon lands adjacent to highways and to cut timber, &c.;

Also, a petition of John Schaumburgh and others, to have a town established on the north side of Fox Lake, by the name of Carrollton;

Also, a petition of the inhabitants of township 12, in range 17, to be organized into a town to be called Le Roy;

Also, a petition of inhabitants of Beaver Dam, in relation to organizing said town.

On motion of Mr. Dennis,

The three last mentioned petitions were referred to a committee of the whole house.

Also, a petition to have a Mutual Fire Insurance Company established at Watertown ;

Referred to the committee on Corporations.

By Mr. Brawley. A petition of Smith Horton and 30 others, asking for the establishment of a territorial road, commencing on town 9, range 12 and sec. 13, and running from thence to Lake Puckway;

Referred to the committee on Roads.

Also, a petition of William Lawrence, praying for a divorce from his wife Clarrissa Lawrence;

Referred to the committee on the Judiciary.

By Mr. Darling. A petition of the inhabitants of Marquette county, praying for the passage of a law to enable them to canvass the votes of their last election';

Also, a petition of the inhabitants of Fond du Lac and Winnebago counties, praying for the organization of a Mutual Fire Insurance Company;

By Mr. Morrow. A petition of the inhabitants of the village of Sheboygan, asking for an act authorizing proper officers to levy a tax to build a district school house;

Also, a petition of the inhabitants of Sheboygan county, asking for the judicial organization of said county;

By Mr. Jones. A petition of Richard Babcock and 38 others, of the towns of Clinton and Union, for a division of said towns;

By Mr. Jackson. A petition of the inhabitants of Dane county, praying for the chartering of a rail road from Milwaukee to the Mississippi river;

Referred to the committee on Internal Improvements.

Mr. Hoard offered the following resolution, viz:

Resolved, That the committee on the militia, be instructed to inquire into the expediency of allowing the Adjutant General a yearly salary sufficient to compensate him for his services as such officer; and to report by bill or otherwise."

On motion of Mr. MaGone,

Said resolution was referred to a committee of the whole House.

Mr. Hoard gave notice that on to-morrow, or some future day, he would ask leave to introduce a bill to repeal the fourth section of an act entitled " an act to amend an act entitled an act for assessing and collecting county revenue,' approved Feb. 19th, 1841."

Mr. Fisher gave notice that on some future day he would ask leave to introduce a bill for the benefit of mechanics and

other persons.

Mr. Cruson, agreeably to previous notice and by leave, introduced

No. 15, (H. of R.) "A bill to abolish the office of county collector."

Which was read the first and second times.

Mr. Burnett, agreeably to previous notice and by leave, introduced

No. 16, (H. of R.) "A bill to amend an act entitled an act to amend an act of the Revised Statutes entitled 'an act concerning the writ of attachment,' approved February 15th,

1842."

Which was read the first and second times.

Mr. Burnett, from the committee on the Judiciary, to which was referred the petition of 102 inhabitants of the Brown district, asking that the law regulating marriage licenses or certificates may be amended, reported that in the opinion of the committee the prayer of the petitioners ought not to be granted.

The report of the committee was accepted, and the committee discharged from the further consideration of the subject.

Mr. Cruson, from the committee on Engrossed Bills, reported the following entitled bills and memorials as correctly engrossed, to wit:

No. 1, (H. of R.) " A memorial to Congress relative to the canal lands;"

No. 2, (H. of R.) "A memorial to Congress relative to the even sections of the canal reserve;"

No. 4, (H, of R.) "A bill to amend an act entitled 'an act concerning divorce ;'

No. 8, (H. of R.) "A bill for the establishment of a territorial road from Burlington, in Racine county, to Delavan, in Walworth county ;" and

No. 2, (H. of R.) "A resolution relative to a light house at Sauk Harbor."

The Speaker laid before the House the annual report of the Register and Receiver of the Rock River Canal;

Which was read, and

On motion of Mr. Thomas,

Ordered to be laid on the table and printed.

Mr. Burnett moved that leave of absence be granted to Thomas McHugh, the Assistant Clerk of the House, for a few days;

Which was agreed to.

On motion of Mr. Billings,

Ordered, That the Chief Clerk be authorized to omploy some suitable person to act in the place of the Assistant Clerk until his return.

The following entitled memorials, resolution and bills were read the third time, passed, and the titles thereof agreed to, to wit:

No. 1, (H. of R.) "A memorial to Congress relative to the canal lands;"

No. 2, (H. of R.) "A memorial to Congress relative to the even sections on the canal reserve;"

No. 2, (H. of R.) "A resolution relative to a light house at Sauk Harbor;"

No. 8, (H. of R.) "A bill for the establishment of a territorial road from Burlington, in Racine county, to Delavan, in Walworth county;"

No. 8, (C.) "A bill concerning the boundary line between the counties of Crawford and Chippewa ;" and

No. 9, (C.) "A bill to authorize school district No. 4, in Dane county, to levy an additional tax to build a school house."

Was read the third time;

And the question having been put,

It was decided in the negative.

A message from the Council, by their Secretary:

Mr. Speaker-The Council have passed

No. 1, (C.) A bill to authorize persons having a lien upon land to pay the taxes on the same;'

No. 3, (C.) A bill providing for authentic statements as to the title of real estate;' and

No. 7, (C.) A bill to provide for the more convenient mode of contesting the election of county and other officers.'" The bills referred to in the above message were taken up and severally read the first and second times.

On motion of Mr. Mooers,

The House resolved itself into commiitee of the whole on the general file of bills;

Mr. Morrow in the chair.

And after some time spent therein, the committee rose, and by their chairman reported

No. 1, (H. of R.) "A bill to change the form of government in the county of Washington, and for other purposes ;"

and

No. 11, (H. of R.) "A bill to amend an act entitled act to provide the means to pay the public debt of the Territory,' approved Feb. 24, 1845;"

With amendments to each;

And also reported progress on the general of bills, and asked leave to sit again thereon.

And the said bill was ordered to be engrossed for a third reading.

On motion of Mr. Burnett,

The further consideration of bill No. 11, (H. of R.) was postponed until to-morrow.

The Speaker laid before the House a report from the Secretary of the Territory, in answer to a resolution passed at a previous day of this session;

Which was read, when

Mr. Dennis moved that said report be laid on the table, and that 200 copies thereof be printed;

Which was agreed to.
