HALF-PAST TWO O'CLOCK, P. M.

A message from the Council, by their Secretary: "Mr. Speaker-The Council have appointed Messrs. Moses M. Strong and Rountree, a committee on the part of the Council, to act in conjunction with the committee appointed on the part of the House of Representatives, to wait upon the Governor and inform him that the two Houses of the Legislative Assembly have organized permanently, and are now ready to receive any communication he may have to make to them."

Mr. Mooers offered the following resolution:

"" Resolved, That the Chief Clerk be directed to furnish to the Post Master of this town the names of the members of the House of Representatives, and that the postage of members during the present session be paid out of the fund appropriated by Congress for the expenses of this Legislative Assembly;"

Which was adopted.

Mr. Mooers offered the following resolution:

"Resolved, That each member of the House may order for his use, during the present session of the Legislative Assembly, any number of newspapers printed in this Territory, not exceeding thirty per week;"

And a division having been called for on the adoption of the said resolution,

There were ayes 21-noes 5.

So the resolution was adopted.

Mr. Hoard offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That the Rev. E. Miner be appointed Chaplain to this House for the present session."

On motion of Mr. Cruson,

The said resolution was laid on the table.

Mr. Hoard, from the committee of the two Houses appointed to wait upon the Governor and inform him that the two Houses were organized and ready to receive any communication he might have to make to them, reported

That the committee had performed the duty assigned them, and that His Excellency informed them that he would meet the two Houses in the Representatives' Hall at 12 o'clock to

morrow.

On motion of Mr. Sheldon,

The House adjourned.

TUESDAY, Jan. 6, 1846.

The journal of yesterday was read and corrected. Mr. Burnett offered the following resolution: "Resolved, That Beriah Brown be employed to do the incidental printing of this House during the present session." Mr. Jackson moved that the said resolution be laid on the table;

Which was decided in the affirmative.

And the ayes and noes having been called for,
Those who voted in the affirmative were,

Messrs. Brawley, Clapp, Croswell, Dennis, Earll, Fisher, Graves, Hoard, Jackson, Mooers, Morrow, Parker, Phelps, Sheldon, Wooster and Darling, (Speaker)-16.

Those who voted in the negative were,

Messrs. Barstow, Billings, Brown, Burnett, Crawford, Cruson, Jones, MaGone, Pole and Thomas-10.

"Resolved, (the House of Representatives concurring,) That the standing joint rules of the two Houses of the last session be adopted as the joint rules of the two Houses of the present session, until others are adopted."

Mr. Hoard offered the following resolution, which was adopted, to wit:

Resolved, That a committee of three be appointed to report rules for the government of the House of Representatives at the present session."

The Chair appointed Messrs. Hoard, Burnett and Mooers the said committee.

Mr. Sheldon offered the following resolution:

"Resolved, That this House do cordially invite the public officers of the Territory and ex-members of this Legislative Assembly to take seats within the bar."

Mr. MaGone moved to amend the resolution by striking out the word "cordially;"

Which was decided in the affirmative:

And a division having been called for,

There were ayes 11-noes 10.

Mr. MaGone moved further to amend by inserting after the word "Assembly," the words "and editors and reporters of newspapers;"

Which was decided in the affirmative.

Mr. Burnett moved further to amend the resolution by striking out all after the words "Resolved, That," to the word "the," and insert after the word "Assembly" the words "be permitted;"

Which was decided in the affirmative.

Mr. Hoard moved that the House now proceed to the election of Chief Clerk;

Which was agreed to.

The Chair appointed Messrs. Fisher and Dennis, tellers to receive and canvass the votes.

Mr. Hoard nominated La Fayette Kellogg for that office; And the votes having been taken and counted, the tellers

reported that twenty-six votes had been given for

La Fayette Kellogg, having received a majority of all votes given, was declared, by the Speaker, duly elect Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives for the yea ensuing.

Mr. Hoard moved that the House now proceed to the election of Assistant Clerk;

Which was agreed to.

The Chair appointed Messrs. Fisher and Dennis, tellers to receive and canvass the votes.

Mr. Croswell nominated Thomas McHugh for that office; And the votes having been taken and counted, the tellers reported that twenty-six votes had been given for the said office.

Thomas McHugh, having received a majority of all the votes given for the office of Assistant Clerk, was declared, by the Speaker, duly elected to that office.

Mr. Hoard moved that the House now proceed to the election of Sergeant-at-Arms, Messenger, and Fireman ;

Which was agreed to.

Mr. Barstow nominated David Bonham for the office of Sergeant-at-Arms.

Mr. MaGone nominated Garret M. Fitzgerald for the office of Messenger.

Mr. Graves nominated John A. Larkin for the office of Fireman.

David Bonham, having received a majority of all the votes given for the office of Sergeant-at-Arms, was declared, by the Speaker, duly elected to that office.

Garret M. Fitzgerald, having received a majority of all the votes given for the office of Messenger, was declared, by the Speaker, duly elected to that office.

John A. Larkin, having received a majority of all the votes given for the office of Fireman, was declared, by the Speaker, duly elected to that office.

Mr. Hoard moved that the resolution submitted yesterday, relative to the election of Chaplain to the House, be now taken up;

Which was agreed to.

Mr. Cruson moved to amend the resolution, by striking out the name of the "Rev. E. Miner," and inserting the name of the "Rev. Rufus Spaulding;"

Which was decided in the negative.

And a division having been called for,

There were ayes 11-noes 12.

Mr. MaGone moved to amend the resolution, by striking out the name of the "Rev. E. Miner," and inserting the name of "John Y. Smith;"
