Mr. Williams, of Tennessee, from the Committee on Military Affairs, to which was referred the bill for the benefit of Thomas Pendergrass, reported the same, with an amendment, which was read.

Mr. Williams, of Tennessee, from the same committee, to which was referred the bill, entitled "An act for the relief of John Thomas," reported it without amendment.

Mr. Rodney presented the petition of Joseph Forrest, of the city of Washington, praying compensation for the loss of a certain schooner, called the William Yeaton, chartered in the month of May, 1812, to the agent of the United States, to take a cargo of provisions from New York to La Guira, which was seized and condemned by the Spanish government; the petition was read; and,

On his motion,

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of Claims, to con, sider and report thereon.

On motion, by Mr. Ruggles,

Resolved, That the Committee of Claims be instructed to inquire into the expediency of providing by law for the payment of the claim of David Cooper, of the Michigan territory, for property taken for the use of the army, during the late war.
