Mr. Smith, from the Committee on the Judiciary, to which was referred the bill, entitled "An act to repeal the act, entitled An act to encourage vaccination," reported the same without amendment.

Mr. Knight reported, from the committee, that they had examined and found duly enrolled the bill, entitled "An act for the relief of Cornelius Huson;" the bill, entitled "An act for the relief of B. H. Rand;" the bill, entitled "An act for the relief of William E. Meek;" the bill, entitled "An act for the relief of James M'Farland;" the bill, entitled "An act for the relief of certain distillers within the sixth collection district of Pennsylvania;" the bill, entitled "An act for the relief of sundry citizens of Baltimore;" the bill, entitled "An act altering the time and place of holding the district court in the district of Mississippi;" and, also, a resolution providing for the security, in the transmission of letters, &c. in the public mail.❞

Mr. Dickerson, from the Committee on Commerce and Manufactures, to which was referred the act of the legislature of Mississippi, making appropriations for the Natchez hospital, made a report, accompanied by the following resolution:

Resolved, That it is not expedient to grant the assent of Congress to the act of the legislature of the state of Mississippi, making appropriations for the Natchez hospital.

The report and resolution were read; and,

On motion, by Mr. Dickerson,

Ordered, That they be printed for the use of the Senate.

Mr. Holmes, of Maine, from the Committee on Finance, to which was referred the bill, entitled "An act relating to Treasury notes," reported the same without amendment.

Mr. Eaton submitted the following motion for consideration:

Resolved, That the President of the United States be requested to communicate to the Senate the report of the Attorney General relative to any persons (citizens of the United States) who have been charged with, or suspected of, introducing any slaves into the United States, contrary to existing laws.

The Senate proceeded to consider the motion of the 24th instant, for requesting the President of the United States to cominunicate to the Senate certain information relating to certain lead mines in the valley of the Mississippi, and agreed thereto.

Mr. Rodney presented the petition of a number of citizens and inhabitants of East Florida, praying the passage of an act to lay out and open a large and convenient public road from the city of St. Augustine to Pensacola; the petition was read; and,

On his motion,

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee on Roads and Canals, to consider and report thereon.

On motion, by Mr. Barton,

Ordered, That leave be given to withdraw two certificates of surveys, one in favor of John Baptist Langlois, and the other in favor. of John B. Olive, accompanying the documents relating to the locations of New Madrid earthquake claims in Missouri.

The bill, entitled "An act for the relief of John Thomas," was read a third time.

Resolved, That this bill pass.

Ordered, That the Secretary notify the House of Representatives accordingly.

The Senate proceeded to consider the report of the Committee on Commerce and Manufactures, who were instructed to inquire into the expediency of prohibiting the importation of foreign spirits; and, On motion,

Mr. Holmes, of Maine, from the Committee on Finance, to which was recommitted the bill, entitled "An act making appropriations for the support of the navy of the United States for the year one thousand eight hundred and twenty-two," with certain instructions, reported the same with an amendment accordingly, which was read; and,

The bill was taken up and considered as in committee of the whole, together with the said amendment, which having been agreed to, and the bill further amended, it was reported to the Senate; and the amendments being concurred in,

On the question, "Shall the amendments be engrossed, and the bill read a third time as amended?"

The Senate resumed, as in committee of the whole, the consideration of the bill to amend an act, entitled "An act to regulate trade and intercourse with the Indian tribes, and to preserve peace on the frontiers," approved 30th March, 1802; and,

Mr. Benton having proposed an amendment thereto; after debate, On motion, by Mr. Williams, of Tennessee,

Ordered, That it lie on the table.

On motion, by Mr. Holmes, of Mississippi,

Ordered, That the document, submitted by him on the 22d instant, relating to the Natchez hospital, be printed for the use of the Senate.

Mr. Noble submitted the following motion for consideration:

Resolved, That the Secretary of War be directed to prepare and report to the Senate, at the next session of Congress, the number of persons placed upon the pension list up to the 4th of September next, by virtue of the act, entitled "An act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and naval service of the United States, in the Revolutionary war," approved March 18, 1818, and the act in addition to the act aforesaid, approved May the 1st, 1820; that the Secretary of War, in giving the number aforesaid, distinguish between those who served in the war of the Revolution until the end thereof, and those who served for the term of nine months, or longer, at any

period of the war; and the number of the officers who receive twenty dollars per month be stated separate from the number aforesaid.

The Senate proceeded to consider the motion of the 25th instant, for requesting the President of the United States to communicate to the Senate the report of the Attorney General relative to persons (citizens of the United States,) who have been charged with or suspected of introducing any slaves into the United States, contrary to existing laws.
