OF THE

HELD IN

PHILADELPHIA.

BY ADJOURNMENTS FROM THE THIRTEENTH DAY OF FIFTH MONTH, TO THE SEVENTEENTH OF THE SAME, INCLUSIVE.

1878.

PHILADELPHIA:

PUBLISHED FOR THE YEARLY MEETING.

EXTRACTS.

At a Yearly Meeting of Women Friends, held in Philadelphia, by adjournments from the Thirteenth of Fifth Month to the Seventeenth of the same inclusive.

Second Day-Morning.

Reports from all our Quarterly Meetings were received, and the Representatives therein named being called, were all present except eight; for the absence of five satisfactory reasons were given. Most of the reports mentioned that the Extracts had been received and distributed.

The following Minutes for Friends in attendance from other Yearly Meetings were read: For Mary B. Needles, from Baltimore Monthly Meeting, Maryland; Rachel C. Tilton, and her husband, Mellis Tilton, from Shrewsbury Monthly Meeting, held at Shrewsbury, New Jersey; Eleanor Bowerman, from West Lake Monthly Meeting, held at Bloomfield, Canada; also for Phebe W. Cornell, an elder, and companion for Eleanor Bowerman, from Rochester Monthly Meeting, New York.

Epistles from our sisters from New York Indiana and Baltimore Yearly Meetings were read to our comfort. Many lively testimonies were borne to the excellence of these, giving evidence that when these Epistles are writ

A committee was appointed to examine and settle the Treasurer's account, also to bring forward the name of a Friend to serve as Treasurer.

The Representatives were requested to meet at the close of the meeting and propose the names of two suitable Friends to serve as Clerks the present year.

Afternoon.

Susan Carroll, on behalf of the Representatives, reported they met and were united in proposing for the consideration of the meeting the name of Martha Mellor for Clerk, and Jane D. Satterthwait for Assistant Clerk. Their report being approved they were appointed to that service the present year.

Minutes for our friends, John B. Needles, from Baltimore Monthly Meeting, Maryland, and Samuel M. Janney, from Goose Creek Monthly Meeting, Virginia, were received from Men's Meeting and read.

Instructive Epistles from Genesee, Illinois and Ohio Yearly Meetings were read.

To essay replies, as way may open, to our sisters with whom we correspond, a committee was appointed.

With the opening of the morning session, the desire was expressed, with much feeling, that we might know a getting down into true silence in prayer to our Heavenly Father to keep and prepare each one for the service that may come before us. In remembrance of those who have been wont to meet with us, but who are now no more, impressive testimonies were borne, and the
