AN ACT

To amend an act entitled "An act to provide for the government of the several town's in this territory, and for the revision of county government, and for other purposes."

Be it enacted by the Council and House of Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin:

SECTION 1. Section three, of part two, chapter nine, of an act entitled "An act to provide for the government of the several towns in this territory, and for the revision of county government, approved February 18, 1841, is hereby repealed.

SEC. 2. That section eighteen, of part third, of chapter visors to per- eleven, of the above named act, be and hereby is repealed; and that all the duties required to be performed by the board of county supervisors by section nineteen, of part third, of the above named chapter and act, shall hereafter be performed by the board of town supervisors, and that said town su pervisors order the said arrearages to be collected in the same manner that the contingent charges of the town are levied and collected.

AN ACT

To authorize the taxation of personal property in the township of Sun Prairie, in the county of Dane.

Be it enacted by the Council and House of Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin:

SECTION 1. That in the township of Sun Prairie, in the What prop county of Dane aforesaid, in addition to the property now subject to taxation by law, the following property shall be assessed and taxed in the same manner as is now provided by law, for all purposes, to wit: All improvements on lands, town lots, and real estate, and all personal property, (and the term personal property, as used in this act, shall be construed to include monies, goods, chattels personal and chattels real, debts due from solvent debtors over and above the amount of debts owing by the owner thereof, whether due on account, contracts, note, bond, or mortgage, public stock or stocks in corporations :) Provided, that the following property shall be exempt from taxation in said township, to wit: All property belonging to this territory, all buildings for public worship, and all school houses, and the lots whereon they are situated, and all interest or shares in the same, and all property exempted by law from taxation.

SEC. 2. This act shall take effect from and after its passage.

AN ACT

Authorizing school district number one, in Geneva village, to levy a tax for the purpose of building a school house.

Be it enacted by the Council and House of Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin:

SECTION 1. That the inhabitants of school district number Vote to levy one, in Geneva village, which district comprises said village and certain contiguous territory thereto annexed, who are qualified by law to vote at a school district meeting, may vote to lay and collect a tax on the property in said district to to an amount not exceeding twelve hundred dollars, for the purpose of building a school house therein, and furnishing the same, and for purchasing a lot on which to erect such school house, if it shall be determined by a vote of said inhabitants that such purchase shall be made.

SEC. 2. The said tax shall be levied on all the property What proper in said district, both real and personal, except such as is by ty to be taxed law exempt from execution, and except such as is owned by said village, and every parsonage, and house for public worship, and the lots on which they are situate.

SEC. 3. In case the said inhabitants shall vote to levy said Duty of trus tax, the trustees of said district shall assess the property in said district subject to taxation by virtue of this act, according to the true value thereof as nearly as they can estimate, and shall make out an assessment roll thereof, pursuant to such assessment with the names of the owners, if known, and after the same shall have been corrected and completed, they shall issue their warrant with such assessment roll annexed, to the collector of said district; and said warrant shall be issued and said tax collected and return thereof made in the same manner that school district taxes are collected in the several towns in this territory.

SEC. 4. A meeting for the election of officers for said school district, and for the transaction of any other business Where meetthat shall be deemed proper by said meeting, shall be held at ing held. the house now used as a district school house, in said village, on the tenth day of March next, at seven o'clock in the afternoon, and thereafter as provided by law, and said property shall not be assessed, nor said tax levied until after said election, and the officers elected at said meeting shall supersede those in office at the time of said election.

To authorize school district No. 2, in the town of Southport to levy a tax.

Be it enacted by the Council and House of Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin:

SECTION 1. That school district number two, in the town of Southport, be, and hereby is authorized to vote, levy and collect a tax of a sum not exceeding eight hundred dollars on trict authorithe taxable property of said district, for the purpose of pur- and colleet zed to levy chasing a lot and building a school house in said district, and tax. the said tax shall be voted, levied and collected as is now provided by law for the collection of taxes to build school houses in the several towns under township government.

Proviso.

SEC. 2. Provided, that the sum authorized to be levied by section one, of this act, shall include a sum of three hundred dollars already authorized by a vote of the district to be raised for the purposed of building a school house: And provided further, that a sum not exceeding two hundred dollars shall be paid for the purchase of a lot as a site for their school house.

AN ACT

To authorize Franklin School District No. 5, in Platte school town No. 4, in Grant county, to levy a tax to build a school house.

Be it enacted by the Council and House of Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin:

SECTION 1. That it shall be lawful for the trustees of Franklin School District No. 5, in Platte school town number four, in Grant county, to levy a tax of two and one half per cent. on the taxable property in said district, for the purpose of building a school house in said district: Provided, that a majority of the legal voters in said school district, present at a school meeting in the said district, called by the trustees thereof, for that purpose, ten days' previous notice being giv
