5 He that sweareth unto his neighbour, and disappointeth him not: though it were to his own hindrance.

6 He that hath not given his money upon usury: nor taken reward against the innocent. 7 Whoso doeth these things: shall never fall.

To Father, Son, and Holy Ghost,
The God whom we adore,
Be glory; as it was, is now,
And shall be evermore.

W. STERNDALE BENNETT.

[blocks in formation]

1 LORD, who shall dwell in Thy tabernacle: or who shall rest upon Thy holy hill ?

2 Even he that leadeth an uncorrupt life: and doeth the thing which is right, and speaketh the truth from his heart.

3 He that hath used no deceit in his tongue nor done evil to his neighbour: and hath not slandered his neighbour.

4 He that setteth not by himself, but is lowly in his own eyes: and maketh much of them that fear the Lord.

5 He that sweareth unto his neighbour and disappointeth him not: though it were to his own hindrance.

6 He that hath not given his money upon usury: nor taken reward against the innocent.

7 Whoso doeth these things: shall never fall. Hallelujah. Amen.

From the Service for the Burial
of the Dead.

MAN that is born of a woman hath but a short time to live, and is full of misery. He cometh up, and is cut down, like a flower; he fleeth as it were a shadow, and never continueth in one stay.

In the midst of life we are in death: of whom may we seek for succour, but of Thee, O Lord, who for our sins art justly displeased.

Yet, O Lord God most holy, O Lord most mighty, O holy and most merciful Saviour, deliver us not into the bitter pains of eternal death.

PSALM XXII.

S. S. WESLEY.

1 My God, my God, look upon me; why hast Thou forsaken me: and art so far from my health, and from the words of my complaint?

2 O my God, I cry in the daytime, but Thou hearest not and in the night season also I take no rest.

3 And Thou continuest Holy: O Thou worship of Israel. BLOW. REYNOLDS.

1 My heart is inditing of a good matter: I speak of the things which I have made unto the King.

10 Kings' daughters were among Thy honourable women: upon Thy right hand did stand the Queen in vesture of gold.

12 And the King shall have pleasure in Thy beauty.

Isaiah xlix. 23. Kings shall be Thy nursing fathers, and Queens Thy nursing mothers.

HANDEL.

[blocks in formation]

1 Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us: but to Thy Name give the praise.

xxxiii. 4. For thou art faithful in all Thy works: and just in all Thy ways. Hallelujah.

cxiv. 21. My mouth shall speak of Thy praise, O Lord: and let all flesh give thanks unto Thy holy Name for ever.

Amen.

EXODUS I.

8 Now there arose a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph; and he set over Israel taskmasters to afflict them with burdens; and they made them serve with rigour.

ii. 23. And the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and their cry came up unto God.

They oppressed them with burdens, and made them serve with rigour.

Psalm cv. 26. Then sent he Moses His servant, and Aaron whom he had chosen: these shewed His signs among them, and wonders in the land of Ham.

Exod. xv. 18. The Lord shall reign for ever and

ever.

20 And Miriam, the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out ofter her with timbrels and with dances.

21 And Miriam answered them, Sing ye to the Lord, for He hath triumphed gloriously: the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.

HANDEL.

[blocks in formation]

1 O BE joyful in God, all ye lands: sing praises unto the honour of His Name; make His praise to be glorious.

2 Say unto God, O how wonderful art Thou in Thy works.

3 For all the world shall worship Thee: sing of Thee, and praise Thy Name.

4 O behold the works of God: how wonderful He is in His doing toward the children of men.

6 He ruleth with His power for ever; His eyes behold the people: and such as will not believe shall not be able to exalt themselves. Hallelujah.

PSALM C.

BOYCE.

1 O BE joyful, all ye lands, serve the Lord with gladness: come before Him with a song.

Let all the people worship Him: sing of Him, and praise His Name.

For the Lord our God is great, He is just and merciful: O that men would praise Him.

ISAIAH LV.

PALESTRINA.

5 Оí, come every one that thirsteth, O come to the waters: come unto Him: Oh, hear, and your souls shall live for ever.

And then shall your light break forth as the light of morning breaketh: and your health shall speedily spring forth then: and the glory of the Lord ever shall reward you.

Lord our Creator, how excellent Thy Name is in all the nations: Thou fillest the heaven with Thy glory. Amen.

MENDELSSOHN.

D

[blocks in formation]

14 O COME hither and hearken, all ye that fear God: and I will tell you what He hath done for my

soul.

15 I called unto Him with my mouth : and gave Him praises with my tongue.

19 If I incline unto wickedness with my heart: the Lord will not hear me.

17 But God hath heard me: and considered the voice of my prayer.

18 Praised be God who hath not cast out my prayer: nor turned His mercy from me.

CROTCH.

137

O COME, ye servants of the Lord,
And praise His holy Name:
From early morn to setting sun,
His might on earth proclaim.

His laws are just, and glad the heart;
He makes His mercies known:

Ye princes, come, ye people too,
And bow before His throne.

TYE.

PSALM CVI.

1 O GIVE thanks unto the Lord, for He is gracious: and His mercy endureth for ever.

2 Who can express the noble acts of the Lord: or shew forth all His praise ?

4 Remember me, O Lord, according to the favour that Thou bearest unto Thy people: O visit me with Thy salvation.
