TUESDAY MORNING, May 13.

The President called the Senate to order at 11 1-2 o'clock. Prayer was offered by the Rev. E. P. Parker, Chaplain of the Senate.

PETITIONS.

Petition No. 1. The petition of the town of Glastonbury against the town of Wethersfield to make the Connecticut River the boundary line between said towns, was received from the House, having been referred to the Committee on New Towns and Probate Districts.

The Senate concurred in the reference.

Petition No. 7. The petition of the city of Hartford for extension of city limits was received, and referred to the Committee on Cities and Boroughs.

Petition No. 14. The petition of John Cavanagh for release from the State Prison was received, and referred to the Committee on the State Prison.

Petition No. 17. The petition of J. T. Hart et al., for a Savings Bank in Berlin was received from the House, having been referred to the Committee on Banks.

The Senate concurred in the reference.

Petition No. 19. The petition of James Marks et al., to be set off from Windsor to East Granby was received from the House, having been referred to the Committee on New Towns and Probate Districts.

The Senate concurred in the reference.

Petition No. 25. The petition of Thomas L. Shipman, et al., for the incorporation of a savings bank at Griswold, was received from the House, having been referred to the Committee on Banks.

The Senate concurred in the reference.

Petition No. 31. The petition of William Meacham, et al., for incorporation of borough of West Stratford, was received from the House, having been referred to the Committee on Cities and Boroughs.

Petition No. 55. The petition of Stephen Abbott for release from the State Prison, was received and referred to the Committee on the State Prison.

Petition No. 56. The petition of John P. Warren for release from State Prison, was received and referred to the Committee on the State Prison.

Petition No. 57. The petition of Alexander Henry for release from State Prison, was received and referred to the Committee on the State Prison.

Petition No. 58. The petition of The Waterbury Gas Light Company for increase of capital stock, was received and referred to the Committee on Incorporations.

Petition No. 66. The petition of Marcus Prince et al., for division of town of Plymouth into election districts was received, and referred to the Committee on New Towns and Probate Districts.

Petition No. 67. The petition of the Poquonnoc Fish Company for amendment of charter was received, and referred to the Committee on Fisheries.

Petition No. The petition of William Bassford and 31 others of the town of Plymouth in aid of the petition of Seth Thomas et al., for the incorporation of the town of Thomaston, was received, and referred to the Committee on New Towns and Probate Districts.

Petition No. The petition of D. A. Burr and 84 others of Plymouth in aid of petition of Seth Thomas et al., for incorporation of the town of Thomaston was received, and referred to the Committee on New Towns and Probate Districts.

HOUSE BILLS.

House Bill No. 1. A bill for a public act entitled “An Act in alteration of an act for encouraging and regulating Fisheries," was received from the House, having been referred to the Committee on Fisheries.

The bill was read the first time, and the Senate concurred in the reference.

House Bill No. 2. A bill for a public act entitled “An Act in addition to an act for the assessment and collection of

Taxes," was received from the House, having been referred to the Committee on Finance.

The bill was read the first time, and the Senate concurred in the reference.

House Bill No. 3. A bill for a public act entitled "An Act concerning Savings Banks," was received from the House, having been referred to the Committee on Banks.

The bill was read the first time, and the Senate concurred in the reference.

RESOLUTIONS.

Hon. Mr. Landers, of the First District, introduced a resolution for proposed amendment to the Constitution as to State Capital.

On motion tabled to print, and made the order of the day for Wednesday, May 21st.

A resolution concerning the stopping of passenger trains at Windsor Locks, was received from the House, having been referred to the Committee on Railroads.

The Senate concurred in the reference.

Hon. Mr. Hoyt, of the Twelfth District, introduced a resolution instructing the Clerk to call the roll of the Senate for the purpose of ascertaining the official seniority of the Senators who have heretofore been members of the Senate, with the view of determining who of the Senators are ex-officio the Board of Visitors of the Sheffield Scientific School.

The resolution was passed.

The Clerk called the roll, and the result was as follows: Hon. John W. Stoughton, 1845, 1860.

Hon. George M. Landers, 1853, 1869.

Hon. Heusted W. R. Hoyt, 1869.

The President then declared the above named Senators members of the Board of Visitors of the Sheffield Scientific School, for the year ensuing.

Senate Joint Resolution No. 5. Hon. Mr. Elmer, of the Eighteenth District, introduced the following resolution:

GENERAL ASSEMBLY, May Session, 1873.

Resolved, That the members of this General Assembly learn with profound sorrow, of the death of Salmon P. Chase, Chief Justice of the United States.

That, recognizing in his decease an irreparable loss to the Republic, we hereby indicate our high appreciation of his noble worth as a man, his wisdom as a statesman, and his eminent ability as a jurist.

Hon. Mr. Elmer, of the Eighteenth District, and Hon. Mr. Tenny, of the Eighth District, spoke on the resolution, and it was unanimously passed.

REPORTS.

The Eighth Annual Report of the Commissioner of Insurance, Part First, Fire and Fire-Marine Insurance, was received and referred to the Committee on Incorporations.

ADJOURNMENT.

On motion, Voted, That the standing order for adjournment be 10 o'clock.

On motion the President declared the Senate adjourned.

release of the District of Black Rock from the City of Bridgeport, was received from the House, having been referred to the Committee on Cities and Boroughs.

Petition No. 50. The petition of John Sydenham for release from State Prison, was received from the House, having been referred to the Committee on the State Prison.

The Senate concurred in the reference.

The petition of George C. Daniels for release from State Prison, was received from the House, having been referred to the Committee on the State Prison.

The Senate concurred in the reference.

Petition No. 52. The petition of George E. Merrill, for release from State Prison, was received from the House, having been referred to the Committee on the State Prison. The Senate concurred in the reference.

Petition No. 53. The petition of Wm. H. Green for release from State Prison, was received from the House, having been referred to the Committee on the State Prison.

The Senate concurred in the reference.

Petition No. 54. The petition of James Coats, et al., for State Aid, was received from the House, having been referred to the Committee on Claims.

The Senate concurred in the reference.

Petition No. 61. The petition of Anson D. Cooper, et al., of the Mohegan Tribe of Indians, for change of law of 1872, relating to the Mohegan Indians, was received from the House, having been referred to the Committee on the Judiciary.

The Senate concurred in the reference.

Petition No. 62. The petition of Henry Dyer, et al., of Sprague, to give the Selectmen authority to sell lots in Cemetery, was received from the House, having been referred to the Committee on the Judiciary.
